John Kreuziger
1869 - 1955

John Kreuziger, 85, of 223 North Washington Street, one of the best known and highly regarded residents of this area, died July 7, 1955, at St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness.

He had suffered a heart attack several days earlier at his home after he had attended Mass and received Communion at St. Henry's Catholic Church. He was taken to the hospital where he had been since then. His death came peacefully while he slept. His condition had grown steadily weaker during the day.

Mr. Kreuziger was a native of the town of Shields. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Kreuziger. He spent his entire life in this area, farming in route 1, town of Emmet for many years an agent for the Midland Insurance Co. of Juneau. He retired in 1927.

His marriage to Miss Emilie Langer took place in St. Henry's in 1895. She died in 1949.

He was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and Watertown Council No. 1478, Knights of Columbus. Mr. Kreuziger was a man of deep Christian convictions and he was a Catholic who followed to the letter the teachings of his church. He was honest and sincere in his beliefs and was an almost daily attendant at Mass since he moved to the city.

He found great comfort in his religion and carried into his daily living the precepts of his faith. As a friend and neighbor, he was the type found all too rarely and in his relations with friends, associates, and neighbors he exercised the most sterling qualities. Not the least of his legacy he leaves his children and others is the fine example of Christian manhood that he practiced and which was part of his daily living in his community.

The funeral took place from the Boyle Funeral Home followed by a requiem Mass in St. Henry's Church, the Very Rev. A. J. Herrmann officiating. Interment was in St. Henry's Cemetery.
