Col. T. McMahon

1864      WILLIAM M. DENNIS, Jr., succeeded by Col. T. McMAHON  /  Grocery Store

11 10       Col. T. McMahon has become the successor of the late William M. Dennis, Jr., in the grocery store on the west side of the river.  Col. McMahon’s is among the largest, choicest and best selected stock of groceries and provisions in the city.  Better articles than those he offers his customers can nowhere be found.  He is also dealing extensively in all kinds of produce so that his well-furnished store is not only a good place at which to buy, but a good place to sell.  We wish the gallant Colonel success in his new enterprise and after three years of active and patriotic service in the field, we are glad to see him back, cultivating “the arts of peace.”   WD

07 20       THE FOURTH IN WATERTOWN

Soon after our arrival we were warmly welcomed and cordially greeted by Hon. W. M. Dennis  . . .  I passed a portion of the evening in a most agreeable manner in company with General Chappell, at the hospital [hospitable] dwelling of Mr. Dennis.  Mr. Dennis and his accomplished lady, together with several of the beautiful young ladies of Watertown, by their agreeable ways and cordial manners, made the time pass so pleasantly that I much regretted the necessity which compelled me to terminate a visit in which I had enjoyed so much pleasure . . . .
