10 04       DEATH OF CHARLES JACOBI, father of C. Hugo Jacobi

A Sudden Death - Last Tuesday, the 18th of September 1866, this community lost one of its most active and prominent, German citizens.  Early in the afternoon of that day, while on the road to his farm, which he had started to visit in a buggy, with a friend, Mr. Charles Jacobi (father of C. Hugo Jacobi) was suddenly struck down and immediately expired.  He had not been in his usual good health for some time, but was not considered in any danger.  He was about fifty seven years of age.

Mr. Jacobi was born in Bavaria, and had held office in his native government.  He took part in the revolution of 1848, and when the reaction occurred, he became an exile, emigrating to this county.  He had resided in this city some twelve or thirteen years, and by his activity and industry, accumulated sufficient means to make his circumstances comfortable.  His intelligence and enterprise gave him an influential position among his German fellow citizens and secured him the respect of all.  At the time of his unexpected death, he was engaged in two or three different branches of business, in connection with Mr. F. Miller, all of which he was successfully carrying on.

He had a large circle of friends here among all classes, who deeply regret his decease.           Watertown Democrat, 10 04 1866
