At 5 o'clock Monday morning, February
2, 1914, William J. Williams, 120 Washington Street, died of a complication of
diseases with which he had been a sufferer for years. Though his death had been expected for some
time it came as a great shock to his many friends. Mr. Williams was a son of the late Thomas
Williams and wife and was born December 29, 1856, in the town of Clyman, where
he resided till about six years ago, when he retired from farming to enjoy life
as best he could on a well-earned competency.
Since coming to the city the family resided in the home in Washington
Street which had been for many years the home of the late Col. Daniel Jones,
and which Mr. Williams became owner of before moving to this city.
In 1889 he was married to Miss Annie
Jones of Emmet, daughter of the late John Jones and wife of that town, who
survive with two children, Miss Kathryn Williams and Thomas Williams, who
reside at home. One sister, Mrs. Lizzie A. Owen of Milwaukee, and two
brothers, Albert L. Williams of Fond du Lac, and Winfield S. Williams survive
him.
In the death of Mr. Williams this city
loses a public-spirited citizen and a man who endeared himself greatly to
everyone who ever formed his acquaintance.
While a resident of the town of Clyman he was always greatly interested
in everything that pertained to its interests and since removing to Watertown
took a great interest in city affairs.
Wednesday afternoon his funeral took
place at 2 o'clock from his late home and the interment was in the Oak
Hill cemetery.
