Rev. A. G. Wegner, former pastor of the German
Reformed Church, died at the family home, 507 North Eighth Street, on Sunday
afternoon. He had been suffering with
stomach troubles for months, hence his death had been expected for some time.
Rev. Wagner was born Oct. 17, 1857, in Riesenburg,
West Prussia, Germany, and graduated at Anklong, Pommerania, Germany.
On May
10, 1884, he came to America and settled in Detroit, and later
located at Sheboygan and studied theology, graduating in 1857, and then located
in Watertown.
May 25, 1888, he married Miss Anna Heck of this city. In April,
1893, he resigned his pastorate here and went to Boone, Iowa, remaining there
till 1894, when he was appointed pastor of St. Mark's Church in Chicago; in
1897 he was made pastor of a church at Sidney, Ill., and in 1900 went to
Stevens Point, where he remained till 1904, and on account of ill health
resigned his pastorate there and located in this city, every two weeks during
most of the time going to Cambria to officiate at the Reformed church at that
place.
His wife and one son survive him, also several brothers
and sisters in Germany.
His funeral was held yesterday afternoon from the
Reformed Church, and the interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
