Ervin H. Kuckkan
1933- 2018
Ervin H. Kuckkan, 85, of Watertown, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018, at his home.
He was born on June 9, 1933, in Watertown, to Herbert and Mary (nee Hiller) Kuckkan. Erv received a Christian education at St. Mark's Lutheran Grade School in Watertown for which he was very thankful. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1951 and spent his entire working years with the service department at Waukesha Engine Company with the exception of serving in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955.
Erv married Ardis Schellpfeffer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mayville on July 17, 1971. They lived in Oconomowoc and became members of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. In 1984, they moved near Watertown overlooking a wildlife area which they both enjoyed. Erv's pleasure was to be outdoors as much as possible learning the habits of the birds and animals to their finest details. He took pride in developing the habitat to attract over 33 different types of birds.
They also had very happy times at their cabin with family and friends at Buffalo Lake for many years. He enjoyed his many hobbies and was quite good at making repairs on many items for family and friends. He liked the challenge and feeling of accomplishment when finished. Erv was an adaptable person and always interested in the operation of many things and took pride in being independent, staying strong and not giving up. He was a mechanical person who liked to see the gears of the world turn.
Erv is survived by his wife, Ardis; two brothers-in-law, Arlen Schellpfeffer and Dr. Don (Ann) Schellpfeffer; sister-in-law, Carol McLaughlin; cousins, Louis (Ora) Kuckkan, George (Kay) Kuckkan and Georgene (Ron) McCaig. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Mary Kuckkan; one brother, Donald (Mary Ann) Helbing; brother-in-law, Arthur Schellpfeffer; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Schellpfeffer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc with Revs. Steven Pagels and Daniel Schmidt officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown. Family and friends may gather at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
He will be missed by relatives and special friends.
He leaves us with these words: So long until I see you next time!
