Charles Gehrke, Milwaukee, Dies

 

Charles Gehrke, former Watertown resident, died at a Milwaukee hospital yesterday after a two weeks illness.  He had been a resident of Milwaukee the past 36 years, retiring about 12 years ago.  He was not married.

 

He was born here May 9, 1872, is son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gehrke.

 

Surviving are two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. William J. Saniter , and Mrs. John Johemke, both of Milwaukee; William Gehrke, Muskegon, Mich., and Fred Gehrke, Madison.

 

There will be a brief funeral service in Milwaukee at 11 a. m. Wednesday at the Harder funeral home, Fond du Lac avenue, after which the body will be brought to the Schmutzler funeral home here where a service will be held at 2 p. m., with interment in Oak Hill cemetery.  A Milwaukee minister will accompany the cortege here to conduct services.

 

The body will lie in state in Milwaukee Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday forenoon and also in Watertown for about an hour preceding the local service.

 

Mr. Gehrke will be remembered by many people here. He was at one time employed in the old Emil Schulz furniture factory here.
