Mrs. Sophia M.
Carley, a resident of Watertown and the town of Emmet since 1844, died at the
home of her son-m-law, Harvey Warriner, town of Emmet
last Tuesday morning; age 94 years. She
was the first white woman resident of the city of Milwaukee, locating there
with her husband in the spring of 1834.
In 1844 she came to Watertown with her husband. In 1848 her husband went to Texas and was
never heard of after. She then went to
reside with her son-in-law, Harvey Warriner in the
town of Emmet. Two children survive her:
Mrs. Harvey Warriner and Erastus Carley of
Emmet. Friday afternoon her remains will
be interred in Oak Hill
cemetery. Rev. H.C. Rehm, pastor of the Congregational church will conduct the
services at the home of her son-in-law.
