George H. Burdick, 78, widely known Watertown resident
was employed by the city, chiefly in the Street Department, for 25 years, died
at the family home Tuesday evening.
Death was due to general infirmities.
His home was at
Mr. Burdick was born in the town of Farmington on
Surviving are Mrs. Burdick, three daughters, Mrs. Otto
Wolff, Chicago, Mrs. Clarence Wolff, Beloit, and Mrs. Leo Wolff, Lake Mills;
three sons, Clarence Burdick, Rockford, Ill., Roy Burdick, Clyman,
and Leon Burdick, Neenah. There are nine
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Other survivors include a brother, Ray Burdick,
Racine, a half-brother, Joseph Shause, Oconomowoc; a
sister Ella Olson, Milwaukee; while three other sisters and two brothers
preceded him in death.
Mr. Burdick was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Mr. Burdick is recalled by many friends here as a man
of pleasant disposition whose services to the city during the many years he
worked for the municipality were conscientious and faithful. He was an excellent worker and never shirked
his duties. He had many friends here in
all walks of life and until his retirement, due to advanced years, was a
familiar figure in the downtown section of the city.

Mrs. George Burdick, 76, of 209 North Water Street,
died of a heart attack yesterday afternoon which she suffered while sitting in
a chair in the living room reading a newspaper.
A worker, washing the ceiling in an adjoining room, was only a few feet
away and was unaware of her death until he quit work at 5 o'clock and wanted to
tell her he would return today to complete the job.
A few moments before he had been talking with her as
she read the paper, turning to him from time to time to comment on items she
was reading. When she stopped talking
she thought she had fallen asleep and did not disturb her.
Mrs. Burdick was the former Lydia Kufahl
and was born in Watertown on 7 September 1882, a daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Ferdinand Kufahl. She was a lifelong resident here. She was married on 14 March 1907 to Mr.
Burdick by the late Rev Julius Klingmann, then pastor
of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. [Burial
was in Oak Hill Cemetery]
Mr. Burdick who worked in the City Street Department
for many years died on August 5 of this year.
Surviving Mrs. Burdick are three daughters, Mrs. Otto
Wolff, Chicago; Mrs. Clarence Wolff, Beloit; and Mrs. Leo Wolff, Lake Mills;
three sons, Clarence, Rockford, Ill; Roy, Clyman; and
Leon, Neenah.
There are nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Other survivors include a brother, Ernst Kufahl, Fort Atkinson, and three sisters, Mrs. John Nickels,
Miss Josephine Kufahl and Mrs. Carl Herschi, all of this city.
Two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Mrs. Burdick was a member of Immanuel Lutheran
Church. The Noffz
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements which are to be announced tomorrow.
