1932 - 2003

2000

03 31       Robert C. Baldwin, M.D., is continuing to see patients at 1507 Doctors Court, where he has opened an independent medical practice.  He was formerly affiliated with three other doctors as part of Medical Associates of Watertown, S.C., which was dissolved as of April 1.  “I have a large number of patients and have seen many of them since they were born - multiple generations to whom I feel loyalty and responsibility.  I enjoy my medical practice and plan to keep that service going in the same manner.  If you practice good medicine the outcome will be successful for both the patient and the physician,” said Dr. Baldwin.

2003

Robert C. Baldwin, M.D., age 70, died suddenly on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.  He was born on November 8, 1932 in Bloomington, Ill, the son of the late C. Clifford and Mabel (Yaeger) Baldwin.

He was a graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. and the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, Ill.  In 1955 he married Roberta Farrow in Rockford, Ill.  Following an internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, the family moved to Watertown, Wis. where he opened his medical practice in September of 1959, located on North Third Street.

In 1961 he formed a medical partnership with the late Dr. E. Allen Miller, M.D. and the late Dr. Eugene P. Schuh, M.D. located at Doctors Court.  After the additions of several physicians at this location, the partnership was dissolved in April of 2000, and Dr. Baldwin returned to a solo practice.

He was a dedicated compassionate, and caring physician serving multi-generation families.  He will be sadly missed by those whose lives he touched.

Dr. Baldwin was a man of diverse interests.  He studied the Civil War with scholarly passion.  Theology was an important aspect of his life, reading and contemplating the word of God on a regular basis. He enjoyed several hobbies which included spending time cultivating the lawn and garden, collecting vintage lead soldiers, playing the piano, and pursuing a variety of historical interest.

Dr. Baldwin was a member of the medical societies on all levels; past president of the Jefferson County Medical Society, staff member, of Watertown Memorial Hospital where he served as chief of staff for several terms, a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, member of Zor Shrine, life member of the B.P.O.E. Elks, and served on several committees for the Watertown School District.

He was a very loyal Cub fan and enjoyed attending Badger football games. He was a dedicated family man leaving behind his wife of 48 years, Roberta; three sons, Steven (Leanne) Baldwin of Watertown, David (Sherry) Baldwin of Madison, Michael (Lynn) Baldwin of Sun Prairie; two grandchildren, Leslie of Watertown, and Joshua of Sun Prairie; numerous relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents. A Christian celebration of life will be held at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 204 North Tenth Street, Watertown on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003. Pastors Stanley Christenson and Matthew Dollhausen will officiate.  Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watertown.  Memorials may be directed to Watertown Memorial Hospital Scholarship Fund or to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.

Lives of great men all remind us

we can make our lives sublime.

And, departing leave behind us

Footprints on the sand of time.

Footprints that perhaps another,

sailing on life's stormy main, some

forlorn and shipwrecked brother

seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us then be up and doing,

with a heart for any fare.

Still achieving, still pursuing,

learn to labor and wait.

- Alfred Lord Tennyson.
