Harold H. Wanke

1925 - 2008

 

Harold H. Wanke, 83, of Watertown, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at home.

 

Harold was born on Feb. 16, 1925, in Watertown, son of John and Irene (Pitterle) Wanke. He married Gertrude Scharp on June 27, 1953, in Watertown.

 

Harold operated the family farm and later owned and operated the Chief Motel in Holbrook, Ariz. He later moved to Las Vegas and worked for the Mirage Hotel until his retirement in 2001.

 

Harold was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown, the Model A Club of America and the Metropolitan Club.

 

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Wanke of Watertown; a daughter, Rochelle (Al) Day of Watertown; grandchildren, Sara and Joshua Day of Watertown; a brother, LaVern (Mary) Wanke of Watertown; a sister, Lorraine Justmann of Markesan; brothers-in-law, Herman (Audrey) Scharp and Howard Reith; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Hall and Hildegarde Kijewski; special nieces, Ann Wanke and Gail Hall. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Pauline Reith; and brothers-in-law, Clark Justmann, Elwyn Hall, Al Kijewski and Rueben Raabe.

 

The family would appreciate memorials to St. Henry Catholic Church or Rainbow Hospice.

 

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Brian Wilk officiating.  Burial will be in Glenview Memorial Gardens, Ixonia, at a later date.

 

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
