Helen A. Tews

1916 - 2016

 

 

Helen A. Tews, age 99, of Watertown, passed away on Feb. 5, 2016, at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown.

 

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Dustin Yahnke officiating.  Family and friends may gather at the church on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial took place at St. Henry Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Marquardt Memorial Manor Foundation.  Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.hafemeisterfh.com.

 

Helen A. Winkenwerder was born on Sept. 26, 1916, in Watertown, the daughter of Otto and Lillie (nee Fredrich) Winkenwerder.  She graduated from Watertown High School in 1933.  She attended Northwestern College, graduating in 1937.  Helen was employed at the G. B. Lewis Company and later by Dr. O. L. Hidde’s office.  In 1948, she was married to Joseph Hady who preceded her in death in 1979.  In 1988, she married Harvey Tews who preceded her in death in March 2003.  

 

Helen was a charter member of AARP #3056 and served as treasurer. She was also a member of Watertown Historical Society, Club 33, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Women in Service in Watertown.  She was a volunteer at Marquardt Memorial Manor and the Octagon House.

 

Helen is survived by three children, Steven Hady of Watertown; Maureen Hady of Richmond, Va.; Bruce (Bonnie) Hady of Cudahy; niece, Nancy (Winkenwerder) Lofaso of Merriak, L.I., N.Y. as well as other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Lillie; husband, Joseph; husband, Harvey and one brother, Harold Winkenwerder.
