Edwin J. Stadler, 88, Watertown, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 31, 2012, at Marquardt Memorial Manor in Watertown.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Monsignor Daniel Ganshert presiding.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

 

Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Edwin John was born in Watertown on Sept. 25, 1924, son of John and Mary (Calopka) Stadler. He grew up on a farm in the area south of Watertown and attended Lake Mills schools. On May 19, 1951, he married the former Genevieve Schlesner at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown.

 

Edwin owned his own trucking company for 59 years and hauled many different things from candy to grain to show cattle, and had up to four employees. After retirement, he worked at various restaurants in the Watertown area as a dishwasher, which he enjoyed very much. His most recent dishwashing job was at the Upper Krust Pie Shop in Watertown.

 

He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and enjoyed dancing, gardening, fishing and playing sheepshead.

 

Edwin is survived by his wife, Genevieve Stadler of Watertown; his two sons, Robert and Andrew Stadler, both of Watertown; and his daughter, Rosemary (Randy) Bohmsack, also of Watertown; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, as well as other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret, in childhood, and Anna Mary Fogerty.

Genevieve Pearl Schlesner was born in Watertown on Dec. 25, 1928, daughter of Ewald F. and Rosa (Holzwarth) Schlesner.  She was a graduate of Johnson Creek High School and on May 19, 1951, she married Edwin J. Stadler at St. Henry Catholic Church.  Edwin preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 2012.

 

Genevieve had been employed as a payroll clerk at Mid-State Shoe Factory in Watertown.  She also had been employed at the former Hartwig Poultry Farm and was a clerk at the former Gobbler Motel, both in Johnson Creek.

 

Genevieve lived for her family and loved spending time with them.

 

She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, a member of T.O.P.S. and the Saturday Club.  She volunteered at the Watertown Senior Center and enjoyed baking, reading, playing cards and crocheting.

 

Survivors include her two sons, Robert and Andrew Stadler, both of Watertown; and her daughter, Rosemary (Randy) Bohmsack, also of Watertown; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, as well as other relatives and friends.

 

Genevieve was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Paap and Goldie Buss, and a brother, Merlin, in infancy.

 

She was the last member of her immediate family.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Marquardt Health Center for the kind and compassionate care they provided for their mother.
