George Schmitt

BURLINGTON - George L. Schmitt, 86, of Burlington, formerly of Waterford, died April 1, 2005, at Mount Carmel Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Funeral services were held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin Kornath officiating. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery.

The Mealy Funeral Home of Waterford is in charge of arrangements.

George was born July 29, 1918, in Watertown, son of Peter and Barbara (Yahna) Schmitt. He married the former Grace M. Scherlie on Nov. 20, 1945, in San Francisco, Calif. Following his marriage, he lived in Watertown and later Union Grove and Waterford.

He attended St. Henry's Grade School and graduated from Watertown High School in 1936 and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1940. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a school teacher and coach in Rib Lake.
