Kurt Schmeling

1914 - 1944

Reburial rites were held here for Pvt. Kurt Schmeling whose home was at 1303 Neenah Street. He lost his life in action on Leyte Oct. 2l, 1944. He was 30 years old at the time.

 

The body was due to reach Watertown in the evening at 6:55 o'clock and was taken to the Boyle funeral home.  The funeral wax held from there, with services at St. Henry's Catholic Church. The Rev. A. H. Foltz officiated and interment was in St. Isadore's cemetery at Clyman.

 

The Pitterle-Beaudoin post No. 189, American Legion, had charge of the military rituals.

 

Pvt. Schmeling was born in the town of Hustisford on Dec. 18, 1914 where he attended school. On Aug. 1, 1939 he married Miss Jeanette Stevens.
