Joseph Okunefsky

1883 - 1951

Joseph Okunefsky, 68, of 1020 South Third Street, was found dead on a couch in his home after a neighbor reported to police he had observed no activity around the house for several days and that there were no marks in the snow.

When authorities investigated and entered they found the man dead. He was covered with a quilt and had apparently died sometime the morning of Dec 18.

Mr. Okunefsky lived alone. He was a retired railroad worker and had lived in Watertown for about 60 years. He was born in Baltimore, Md., and came here with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Ignatz Okunetsky. He never married.  An only sister, Anna, died at St. Mary's Hospital on Jan. 1, 1951. Her death was the first recorded in Watertown in 1951.

Mr. Okunetsky was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.

Funeral services were held in St. Henry's Church, the Rev. A. J. Herrmann officiating. Interment was in St. Henry’s Cemetery.

The only relative surviving him was a niece, Mrs. George A. Scholl, Waukesha.
