1926 - 2015
Margaret E. “Peg” Novotny, age 88, Watertown, passed away on
Thursday October 29, 2015, at the Golden Living-Center. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on
Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church with Father Patrick Wendler celebrating. Burial
will be in the parish cemetery.
Margaret Elizabeth Surdick was born on
Nov. 24, 1926, in Watertown, the daughter of John and Rose (Richter) Surdick. On June 12, 1948, she married John Novotny at St.
Henry Catholic Church. Peg had been employed at Bethesda Lutheran Home for 15
years. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers
and Altar Confraternity.
Survivors include her husband John; their children, Rose (Fred) Zastrow, Mary Blaisdell, John III
(Lorrie) Novotny, Grace (Ed) Wegner, Robert (Nancy) Novotny, Richard (Renee)
Novotny and Edward (Tammy) Novotny; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren;
sisters-in-law, Mabel Surdick and Ruth Surdick; her lifelong friend, Virginia Kaercher,
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Peg is preceded in death by a son, Joseph; two daughters, Cathy
and Linda; a grandson, Tony Blaisdell; a greatgrandson, Mason Novotny, her parents, a sister
Kathleen (Hap) Schmutzler and two brothers, John and
Anthony Surdick.
