Monica Loughan

1918 - 2009

 

Monica M. Loughan, 90, formerly of La Crosse, passed away on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Watertown.

 

The former Monica M. Stelzer was born on June 28, 1918, in Comfrey, Minn., daughter of Henry and Mary (Seidel) Stelzer.  On May 12, 1945, she married George W. Loughan at Truax Field in Madison. He preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1986.

 

Monica had been employed as a nurse's aide at St. Mary's Hospital in Racine and at Lutheran Hospital's maternity ward in La Crosse for 25 years.  She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown and St. James The Lessor Catholic Church in La Crosse.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Ruth (Ken) Rolefson of Ixonia; grandsons, Michael (Rachel) Rolefson of South Milwaukee, Steven (LeAnne) Rolefson of West Allis and Brian Loughan of Fort Cambell, Ky.; great-grandchildren, Nicole and Daniel Rolefson and Sophia, Alexandria, Monica and Emma Loughan; also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She is also survived by special friends Darce Druschke, Dianna Dondlinger, Kathy Yohn and all her friends at the Golden Living Center.

 

She is further preceded in death by a son, Richard Loughan; a son in infancy; her parents; and 11 brothers and sisters.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church with Father Brian Wilk officiating.  Family burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery of La Crosse.

 

Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home and Cremation Service and on Wednesday after 10 a.m. at the church.

 

Memorials to St. Henry Catholic Church, St. James the Lessor Catholic Church or Asera Care Hospice of West Allis would be appreciated.
