Norbert J. Kirsch

1923 - 2007

 

Norbert J. Kirsch, 83, of Watertown, died on Saturday evening, July 7, 2007, at Marquardt Memorial Manor in Watertown.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church with Father Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will take place in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, with graveside military rites.

 

Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

 

The Hafemeister Funeral Home of Watertown is in charge of arrangements.

 

Norbert was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Cudahy, son of the late John and Rose (Rytman) Kirsch. On Aug. 18, 1945, he married Shirley M. Collette at St. Frederick's Catholic Church in Cudahy.

 

Norbert was a graduate of Cudahy High School. He was a coordinator for the American Bowling Congress in Milwaukee, retiring in 1987. Norbert was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He served with the 4th Division Marines in the Pacific and was involved with “The Fighting Fourth of World War II,” which included Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was awarded three Purple Hearts and numerous medals.

 

Norbert was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown and enjoyed golfing and traveling.

 

He is survived by a son, Carter Kirsch of Fallon, Nev.; a daughter, Cynthia Cimbalnik of Johnson Creek; seven grandchildren, Andy, Amy, Scott, Kim, Joshua, Jacob and Joey; six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Nathan, Michael, Logan, Brady, Katelyn; and two special friends, Millie and Helen of Watertown.

 

He was further preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Kirsch, on March 19, 2002, and a sister in infancy.
