John Jansky
1877-1948
John J. Jansky, widely known Watertown
business man, died February
17, 1948 at St. Mary's Hospital. His home was at 901 South Tenth Street.
Mr. Jansky was born May 31, 1877, in La Crosse, a son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Jansky. He started in the printer's trade at La Crosse at the
age of 12 and worked there until 1900. He then went to Winona, Minn., where he
served as foreman for the Jones-Kroeger Co. In 1915 he returned to La Crosse
where he served as superintendent of the Inland Printing Co. On May 1, 1921, he
came to Watertown where he purchased the Joseph Glaus
print shop, Later he formed a business partnership with his son, George Jansky.
This business is still operating here under the name of the Jansky Printing
Co., with a plant in West Main
Street.
Mr. Jansky was married to Anna Voves at LaCrosse on Jan. 31, 1899. She
survives, as do a daughter, Mrs. Fugene Seyfert and two sons, George W. Jansky and Robert J.
Jansky, all of Watertown. There is one grandchild. Also surviving are four
brothers, Anton, James, Carl and Albert, all of LaCrosse;
two sisters, Mrs. Richard Ginsky, LaCrosse,
and Mrs. Barbara Magin, Minneapolis. Two sisters
preceded him in death.
Although Mr. Jansky had not been active
in recent years, he at one time was interested in local affairs and took an
active part in community events here. He was a former member of the board of
police and fire commissioners. He was also active in the Rotary club at one
time.
The Rev. A. R. Foltz officiated at St.
Henry’s Church and interment was in the church cemetery.
