Ellen P. Brooks was
born on Jan. 5, 1924 in Green Bay, weighing in at 2 pounds, the daughter of
Harry and Lorraine (Jackson) Brooks. She was a graduate of P. J. Jacobs High
School in Stevens Point. Ellen received a nursing degree from Marquette School
of Nursing in 1947 and a master's degree in public health from the University
of Minnesota.
On May 9, 1953, she
married Leslie Huber at St. Victor's Catholic Church in Monroe.
Ellen served as
health nurse at Monroe High School and Wausau Public Schools. After moving to
Watertown, she was employed by Watertown Memorial Hospital and Bethesda
Lutheran Home. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Catholic Women's
Club, Christians Mothers and the Marquette Alumni. Ellen enjoyed walking,
swimming, playing bridge, time at the cottage in Price County, spending two
months each winter in Arizona and Nevada. But most of all, as an only child,
she loved the experience of raising six children and spoiling her
grandchildren.
Ellen is survived by
her husband Leslie, their children Lynn (Douglas Simmons) Huber of Port Orange,
Fla., Gregory Huber of Wausau, Lori (Bruce) Wagner of Watertown, Gary Huber of
Columbus, Grant (Jolene) Huber of Madison, and Lisa (William Klish) Huber of Stevens Point; eight grandchildren, P. J.
Wagner, Jamie Pless, Kevin Wagner, Belinda Huber,
Megan Huber, Chloe Huber, Greta Huber, and Grace Huber; six
great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by
her parents, aunts and uncles.
Ellen's family
wishes to thank the Rainbow Hospice staff and volunteers for the wonderful care
they provided.
