Jerome Higgins

1931 - 2005

 

 

Jerome "Jerry" Higgins, 74, of Watertown, died October 30, 2005, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

 

He was born on Sept. 20, 1931, in Farmington, the oldest son of James Baylor and Lillie (Rickerman) Higgins. He married Gloria Crosby on May 21, 1960, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church.

 

Jerry was an active member of St. Henry's, serving as a lector for Masses and teaching religious education for almost 20 years. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

 

Jerry served in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean War.

 

He was a well-known machinist at Miller Auto Parts, now Bumper to Bumper, for 33 years until his retirement, and then continued working there part time.

 

Jerry loved gardening and being in the outdoors. He was also well known for his large array of tulips in the spring.

 

He is survived by his wife, Gloria of Watertown; seven children,

 

Matt (Annette) of Hamilton, Ohio,

Vince (Elie) of Marietta, Ga.,

Tim of Milwaukee,

Phil (Sandy) of Watertown,

Rose (Scott) Schulze of Columbus,

Christine Weliner of Waukesha and

Nick (Ana) of Marietta;

 

16 grandchildren, Diane, Erin, Andy, Alex, Melanie, Nicole, Chantel, Bart, Kaitlyn, Heather, Adam, Nicholas Jr., Michael, Sarah, Brittney and LeAnn; two great grandchildren , Donovan and Dylan; three brothers, Johnny of Watertown, Jim (Anne) of Shreveport, La., and Joe (Bonnie) of Watertown; two sisters, Joy (Verne) Walters of Johnson Creek and Joan Hamann (friend Gordon) of Johnson Creek; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Jerry was a true servant to all and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

 

A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at St. Henry’s with the Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will take place in Glenview Memorial Gardens, Ixonia.
