Mary J. Hartung

1915 - 2005

 

 

Mary J. Hartung, 90, of Watertown, died October 21, 2005, at Watertown Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

 

Funeral services will be held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Watertown with the Rev. Bernard E. Rott officiating. Burial will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.

 

The former Mary J. Jank was born May 20, 1915, in Milwaukee, daughter of Kasper and Mary (Warmuth) Jank. On June 19, 1937, she married John M. Hartung in Milwaukee.

 

Mary and John were managers of the American Legion Green Bowl and owned Hartung Supper Club in Pipersville until 1978. She had been a member of St. Henry’s in Watertown since 1937, and was a member of its Catholic Women's Club. She was also a member of the Saturday Club.

 

Mary was known for her special foods and desserts. She was also a talented seamstress and enjoyed needlework.

 

Survivors include a daughter, Joan (Robert) Kehr of Libertyville, Ill.; two sons, Jack (Darlene) Hartung of Madison and Steve (Holly) Hartung of North Little Rock, Ark.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Heidi; her parents; and two brothers.
