Girl, 12, Drowns in Ditch

 

Twelve-year-old Carmen Lynn Hady of Watertown lost here life in high water in a drainage ditch on a Friday afternoon in June (26th) of 1969.  The body was recovered by firemen at least seven blocks from the point at which she had entered the ditch near her home.

 

She was playing in the ditch with two brothers and a friend, when suddenly she lost her footing in the fast water. The ditch runs under the Milwaukee Road tracks, through Union Park, through the property of the G. B. Lewis Company, where the ditch is enclosed, and under Milford Street as it flows east toward the Rock River.

 

Carmen was born March 19, 1957, in Watertown and lived there all her life. She had just completed the sixth grade at St. Henry's Catholic School.

Burial was in the church cemetery.
