Viola Grunewald

1924 - 2005

Viola A. Grunewald, 80, of Watertown, died February 7, 2005, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital with her family by her side.

Funeral services were held at St. Henry’s Church with the Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

The Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home and Cremation Service served the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Watertown Christmas Parade were suggested.

The former Viola A. Weber was born on July 18, 1924, in Jefferson, daughter of Fred and Mary (Melcher) Weber. On Feb. 10, 1945, she married Carl Grunewald at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson. He preceded her in death.

Viola had been a cook at the former Otto's Inn and had also been employed at Del's Liquor and Johnson Controls. She had volunteered as a foster grandparent at Bethesda Lutheran Home.

Viola was a member of St. Henry’s, Watertown Senior and Community Center and AARP.

Viola was active in the foster grandparent program at Bethesda for many years. She gave her heart and soul to her loving family and grandchildren. Viola was well known for her open heart and always opened her home for any child in need. She had a lot of friends and loved going to special functions with them. Her hobbies included woodworking, reupholstering, cake decorating, touring new places, attending parades/festival with the kids and grandchildren, singing German polka songs, cooking and finding new recipes. She touched our hearts and we will always remember and have a special place in our hearts for her.
