The 128th Air Refueling Wing

   Milwaukee’s hometown Air Force

Based at General Mitchell Field in Milwaukee Wisconsin, our unit is rich in history and experience. Formed in 1940 as the 126th Observation Squadron, we have evolved over the years to meet the needs of our ever-changing world. Now flying the KC-135R Stratotanker, the Wing’s aerial refueling work dates back to 1962, with the propeller driven KC-97s. The 128th has flown the KC-135 since 1977, supporting numerous military operations all over the globe.

By far the greatest asset of the 128th Air Refueling Wing is the people whom work for the organization. Our Guardsmen bring a wealth of work experience and enthusiasm for accomplishing the mission. Outside of the gates they live, work, and participate in local community activities with great pride. For most of our personnel, Air National Guard service is a second occupation – but for all of us, it remains our first passion.

In turn, the local community of the surrounding Milwaukee area has played a tremendous part in supporting our organization over the years. Without the vital encouragement, support, and patriotism demonstrated, many of our unit members would not be able to perform their duties as effectively.

We are an organization that is proud to serve and we are committed to the defense of our community, our state, and our nation.
