1914 - 2009
Genevieve H. Ebert, 95, of Watertown, passed away Monday evening, Dec. 28, 2009, at Marquardt Memorial Manor in Watertown.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at noon at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Brian Wilk presiding. Burial will be in St. Henry Catholic Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Memorials may be given to St. Henry Catholic Church, Marquardt Hospice or the charity of one's choice.
Genevieve Harriet Metzger was born in Clyman on March 16, 1914, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Caine) Metzger. She graduated from Juneau High School. On Feb. 19, 1936, she married Raymond F. Ebert at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Watertown. Raymond preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1966.
Genevieve and her husband farmed in Dodge County for 30 years. In 1967, she moved to Watertown and was employed as a cook at St. Bernard's Catholic School for seven years. She then had been employed by Earl and Gloria Witte of the Watertown Country Club, also as a cook, for 18 years.
Genevieve was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Christian Mother's Society and the Catholic Knights Branch No. 120. She had also been a member of AARP and the senior citizens center. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed shopping, gardening and watching wrestling.
Genevieve is survived by her four sons, Patrick (Juanita) Ebert, Michael (Donna) Ebert, Thomas (Beverly) Ebert and Jerold (Mary) Ebert, all of Watertown; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Raeann Gruss; a son-in-law, Paul Gruss; two brothers, George and Donald Metzger; and two sisters, Gladys Pateman and Florence Schwartz. Genevieve was the last member of her immediate family.
