Thomas Darcey
1886 - 1960
Thomas J. Darcey, 73, Route 1, one of the most widely known farm
residents of the Watertown area and a member of a pioneer family in Dodge
County, died of a heart attack while attending the 11 o'clock Sunday Mass in
St. Bernard's Church.
Mr. Darcey, who was in his customary pew, collapsed shortly
after the Mass began and was pronounced dead by a physician who was also in
attendance. Mr. Darcey died in a place of worship
which he loved and where he practiced his faith throughout his lifetime - a
Catholic church.
He had been subject
to a heart condition and several years ago had undergone treatment at Madison
but he was able to remain active and on the previous evening had been at the
Elks Club where he was one of the sponsors for a candidate in a special class
that was initiated into Watertown Lodge No. 666, B.P.O.E. He was in his usual
good spirits and spent the evening talking to old friends.

His wife, who
preceded him in death many years ago, was the former Helen O'Byrne. They had no
children.
Mr. Darcey was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church,
Watertown Council No. 1478, Knights of Columbus and the Watertown Lodge of Elks
and the Holy Name Society.
Mr. Darcey was for many years active in the affairs of Dodge
County and the town of Emmet. He was a mutual
insurance representative for many years, and was also a treasurer of the town
of Emmet and currently, a member of the Dodge County
School Committee.
He was a soft spoken
man, intense and earnest and possessed many excellent qualities that endeared
him to a wide circle of acquaintances. He was never known to speak ill of
anyone and he had integrity and charitableness. Many individuals felt his
influence and help in their lifetime and he was always ready to assist in any
good cause or community project.
The funeral was from
the Boyle Funeral Home services in. St. Bernard's Church, the Rev. Patrick
Dolan C.S.C., officiating. Interment
was in St. Henry’s Cemetery.
