Rachael Checota

1916 - 2002

 

Rachael Checota, of San Rafael, CA., died Dec. 27, 2002, surrounded by her five children.

 

A funeral Mass was held on Dec. 29, 2002. A memorial Mass will be held in Watertown in the spring and Rachael will be buried in Watertown next to her husband.

 

Rachael was born Jan. 26, 1916, in Townsend, daughter of Adolph and Evelyn Schmitt. She graduated from high school in 1932 when she was 16 years old and attended St. Catherine's College in St. Paul, Minn.  In 1938, she married Joseph Checota Sr., who preceded her in death in 1986.

 

She was a homemaker and raised five children. When the last of her children started school, she taught preschool and started a recreational program for the elderly in Watertown. She lived in Watertown from 1945 until she moved to San Rafael in May 2001. She lived her final days in the loving care of the sisters and staff at The Nazareth House in San Rafael.
