John Bubernak

1924 - 2004

 

John Bubernak, 79, of 513 Carl Schurz Drive, Watertown, died on February 6, 2004, at Watertown Memorial Hospital.

 

A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday at St. Henry’s with the Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial was in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Watertown.

 

John was born June 24, 1924, in Brunary, Ukraine, son of lgnac and Sofia (Soroka) Bubernak. On Aug. 9, 1950, he married the former Frieda Kern in Regensburg, Germany. John attended school in the Ukraine and was a Freedom Fighter in Europe following World War II. He and his wife came to the United States in 1951 and became citizens of the United States in 1957. He had been employed as a sausage maker at Stoppenbach's in Jefferson for 32 years.

 

John was a member of St. Henry’s, its Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and served as an usher. He was a member of the Watertown Lions Club, where he served on various boards and committees. He was also a member of the Watertown Elks Lodge and Watertown Conservation Club, and had been a Boy Scout Leader at St. Henry’s.

 

John was also a member of various early morning coffee groups. He enjoyed woodworking and hunting. John's life was his family and friends.
