Mike E. Babich

1929 - 2008

 

Mike E. Babich 78, of Watertown, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Golden Living Center-Watertown.

 

He was born July 5, 1929, in Waukegan, Ill., son of Dujo and Petronila (Cernich) Babich.  He was a 1948 graduate of Waukegan Township High School.  He married Mary Ann Welker on Aug. 29, 1953, in Brighten.

 

Mike owned and operated Babich Snack Shop in Waukegan for 10 years and was a corporal as an army cook for two years.  Later, he became a certified meat cutter for Krogers nine years and for the Fort Sheridan Army Commissary for 28 years, retiring in 1991.  He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown and the Lake Mills Knights of Columbus.

 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Babich; a son, Tom (Jackie) Babich; three daughters, Margene (Ken) Carpenter, Jane Granner and Ann (fiancé Pat Deasy) Babich; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Jennie (John) Katalinich, Anne (Frank) Guenther, Rose (Bill) Ogrin and Irene (Hank) Lubeck.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Henry Catholic Church with Father Brian Wilk and Father Paul Daniels officiating.  A private family burial will be held in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, Ill., at a later date.

 

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lake Mills St. Vincent DePaul, Golden Living Center-Watertown or AseraCare Hospice in West Allis.
