Confirmation Class

Confirmation
was celebrated at St. Henry’s Parish on the feast of Pentecost, May 14,
1978. The newly consecrated bishop of
Madison, George O. Wirz, confirmed 54 juniors and one
adult in a special Eucharistic celebration.
In addition, three juniors who had already been confirmed rededicated
their commitment.
The
class had spent a year in intensive preparation, attending classes to learn
more about their church, participating in two retreats to experience Christian
community, and giving of their time in various service projects in response to
Jesus’ call to feed the hungry, clothe the naked.
In his
homily, Bishop Wirz spoke to the confimands
of the many fires which are devastating our society. He cautioned that nothing is as powerful as a
fire which is fanned by a strong wind of passion. But he affirmed that the wind and fire of the
Holy Spirit can burn more strongly than any wind and fire of the world. Through the sacrament of confirmation, the confirmands will be strengthened to withstand the pressures
of the world and follow Christ.
