December 11, 2009

Dear Moms and Dads,

Thank you, Mrs. Oestreicher, upper grade band and choir students, and all the 4K through grade four students for a very enjoyable evening of Christmas music last night.  You add so much to this great time of the year.  Thanks too to St. Nicholas and his Home and School helpers for the nice little surprises on everyone’s desk this past Monday.  How nice of you to not overlook the students just because your feast day wasn’t a school day.

Today, parents, you will find mid-quarter reports for your children in grades 3-8.  We were able to successfully run off reports from the churchwerks student information system for all the subjects for which the children have classes four or five times a week.  The “special” teachers  (music, phy ed, and art) did let homeroom teachers know if a student’s grade was running at a C or lower at this point. No mark in those categories would indicate the youngsters at this point are averaging an A or B.  Some of the reading grades are possibly deceptively low if the student has not earned many Accelerated Reader (AR) points as yet.  They do have all quarter to do that so if they get cracking, the reading grade should improve quite a bit.  It is 25% of their total grade so very few points so far could have them earning an F or D in that category, and that certainly would pull down their overall grade at this juncture.  The upcoming holiday vacation would seem like a perfect time to curl up with some good books and up the number of earned second quarter AR points.

Santa’s Secret Shop will be open for the 4K, K, grades 1, 3, and 7 students this coming Thursday.  On Friday, the 18th, the students in grades 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8 will have that opportunity. The second graders receive the sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time this Saturday night.  We are so blessed as Catholics.  God is truly a forgiving and strengthening God.
