December 4, 2009
Dear Moms and Dads,
Because the December 8th Feast of the
Immaculate Conception is a holy day of obligation for Catholics in the United States,
we will be attending Mass as a school on Tuesday at 8:15 instead of
Wednesday. Last spring I was privileged
to visit the National Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.
C. A beautiful church for a beautiful
lady. If you ever have the chance, don’t
miss it!
Our annual Christmas program is this coming
Thursday, the 10th. This year it will
include a short concert from the upper grade band and choir students as
well. Parish Center doors will be
unlocked at 6:00 p.m. but children won’t be permitted to go to classrooms until
6:15. Mrs. Oestreicher is including a
note in this week’s envelope concerning specific times and appropriate clothing
for all the students involved. This night always makes for such a nice part of
the Advent/Christmas season.
During these cold weather months, the adult
supervisor will leaving the playground at the end of the “official supervision
time” of 3:10. (See Handbook, page 12)
Any children not picked up by then will be directed to come in and sit
on the inside stairs in the front door school lobby. So if you don’t see your youngsters on the
playground, we suggest either parking and walking to the front of school to
retrieve them or go out the north Cole Street driveway and come around the
block so you can stop on Cady Street in front of school. When your children see you, they should let
us know in the office you are here, and then go out to the car. Please understand if this would get to be
more than a few minutes thing now and then, we might have to begin charging for
extended care type supervision. I don’t
foresee that happening, but it probably wouldn’t hurt to mention.
Do try to make a quick trip through school
soon. Cheery, Christmas-themed artwork
is appearing throughout. Don’t miss the
cafeteria; it’s especially decorated.
And please remember, you and the children’s grandparents are welcome to
spend “visiting time” here almost any day. We’d love to have you. Just give us a day or two’s notice, and let
us know if you will be staying for lunch.
Next Friday is the day for mid-quarter
reports for grades 3-8. The 4K-Grade 2
teachers felt that, unless there was a significant concern that developed since
they saw you parents at the recent Parent-Teacher conferences, they would not
include a mid-quarter note this time.
And, of course, parents are always welcome to request a phone call or a
visit after school with a teacher.
