“Jesus replied, “Blest are you, Simon, son of Jonah.

No mere man has revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.”

                  (Matthew 16:17)

Thank you, Veterans, for coming to school last week.  (We had eleven honor us with their presence.)  What a privilege it was to have your company for lunch!  God bless you for all your service.

I hope you all saw the recent article in the Watertown Daily Times announcing that we did receive official accreditation from WRISA (Wisconsin Religious and Independent Schools Accreditation) for 2008-2009.  This is an ongoing process and takes a fair amount of effort every year to renew, and a large amount of effort every six and seven years.  In 2006-2007 we had to engage in a very serious and in depth self-study of our strengths, weakness, and goals, and in 2007-2008 in early November we had an accreditation visiting team of five people here for two days and two nights who spent a lot of time verifying our self-study by reviewing our documentation, visiting all classrooms, and interviewing all staff individually and a number of parents and students.  It’s a pretty intense project.  So we are proud that all this hard work bore fruit!   It’s a good thing.  It keeps our schools constantly working on improvement and doesn’t let us rest on our laurels.  Our children can only benefit. Nonetheless, three cheers for us!

We had a request to let you know that this weekend the Watertown Area Cares Clinic – a free health care clinic located at 415 South 8th Street – is having a COOKIE SALE tomorrow (Saturday) at The Market on South Water Street from 10 am until sold out and then again at Turner Hall on South Fourth Street on Sunday with the same times.  CARES CLINIC is a very valuable service to our community, worthy of our support.  If you would like to contact them for information regarding their services, their phone number is (920) 206-7797 and their email address is wacc@wahs.com.  Some of our parishioners at St. Henry are among their volunteers.

Our area is being blessed with two different days of a workshop given by Jim Fay of the Love and Logic Institute.  The workshop is entitled “A Day of Love and Logic with Jim Fay – Success with Underachieving Kids.”  On December 11 he will be in Milwaukee at the Clarion Hotel at 5311 S. Howell Avenue, and on January 8 he will be in Madison at the Marriott West off the beltline in Middleton.  The times are 8:30 am through 2:30 pm with the cost being $99.00 – very reasonable for an offering of this type.  If you can make it, give them a call at 800-338-4065 or go online at www.loveandlogic.com.  We highly recommend their parenting approach.  In the long run, with consistency, their approach increases the odds considerably that your kids will be responsible, respectful, and fun to have around – pretty great outcomes, don’t you think? And, again, you are more than welcome to check out materials from them in our parent library in the office.

Teachers asked me to request that you please not allow children to bring toys to school to trade with classmates.  It can cause problems, as you can imagine.  Someone older and/or more savvy could pull off an inherently unfair exchange.  There is the worry of losing them – and then charges of someone else taking them.  Having them out at the wrong time and place, etc. is often a distraction.  Have we convinced you?  Anyway, examples of what we are talking about are “Bakugan” balls and figures and Pokeman cards. Thanks for your help on this!

St. Henry home basketball games are HERE tomorrow. They start at 9:30 and the last game is scheduled for 1:30.  Please, though, be sure all children are supervised the entire time. Thanks for your help on that too!

Time to share our first quarter honor roll attainees.
