Dear Moms and Dads,

Enjoy your four-day weekend and have a safe and fun Halloween.  Happy ALL SAINTS Day on Sunday!  It’s a great day to ask all those good people we know who have gone before us to pray for us that we may join them in heaven someday.  Should be one great reunion, don’t you think?

The completely re-done St. Henry Parent and Student Handbook will be in your family envelope.  You will see from the “Table of Contents” that lots of topics are covered from the profound to the mundane.  Please familiarize yourself with what is in it, read over the items that have immediate application, and then return the Handbook Agreement Statement as soon as possible.  You will notice there are spots on the sheet for children’s signatures.  If your children are very young, you might want to just hit the highpoints of the sections discussing homework, playground rules of safety, and discipline expectations (shared in the first paragraph of the topic.)  With older students you might want to review together a number of other topics as well.  Some of the sections will only refer to parents, and some will only be looked up on a need-to-know basis.  It would be wonderful if all the Agreement Statements could be back in school by the end of next week.  However, let’s set Wednesday, November 11 as the deadline.  By the way, if you misplace your copy, this handbook will be available on-line or we can run another for you at a minimal cost.  You might want to find a folder to keep it in so it lasts longer.

Next week is the diocesan-mandated week for every teacher in grades K-8 to share a lesson from the diocesan-created Safe Environment curriculum.  There is an explanation sheet in every child’s take home folder or envelope explaining the lesson.  If you would prefer to not have your child be in class during this time, please leave a message on the answering machine so we can send you an “Opt-Out Form” that would need to be returned Tuesday.  Teachers will not schedule the lesson until Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday to give parents an opportunity to get the request to us.  We do recommend the program, however.
