“Lord
Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of
the world:
have mercy on us.”
(from the “Gloria” of the
Mass)
Please
support, if you possibly can, the Eighth Grade Spring Trip Fund-raiser
TOMORROW, Saturday the 18th at the Badger Car Wash
on West Main Street. It is on the
way to Farm and Fleet, next to the Kwik Trip that is on the corner of the road
(Carriage Hill Drive) that runs alongside the west grounds of the High
School. The students will use the car
wash’s facilities and do all the work.
You will be able to get out and enjoy lunch and/or snacks. They will be
there between 10 am and 2 pm.
Donations will be very much appreciated.
(It will cost the class $2.00 per vehicle to use Badger’s water and
hoses, but it’s still very generous and gracious of the folks at the car wash
business to allow this group effort.)
Thanks so much for wanting to help the youngsters out. The goal, by the way, is to raise a minimum
of $400 per student by the spring so their individual cost won’t exceed $400
each. This trip is a wonderful
opportunity, and we are hoping all goes well this year so we can consider doing
this or something similar in the future for upcoming classes. This is our first endeavor at such an
ambitious project. May it not be our
last!
Phil
Neidner is a Watertown police officer who is very
much involved in school security for Watertown.
He recently informed schools of a website that he thinks would be
valuable for staff, parents, and possibly older students. It is an interactive site that allows
interested people “to view what is out there affecting our kids/students. Any word that is underlined, bold printed or
in a different color when ‘clicked-on’ will lead to a link on the Internet for
additional information.” So you might
want to see what he has on this “WHS Blogsite.”
Its
address is www.whs-thinblueline.blogspot.com. I’d especially encourage parents of upper
grade students to check this out.
Speaking
of school security, I just wanted to remind parents that if we would ever
have to evacuate our school, our first destination would be Watertown’s
Municipal Building a block and a half away.
It offers rooms for us to gather and get organized for pick up by
parents and has a fairly large parking lot on First Street next to the
river. If for some reason that were not
possible, we have mutual arrangements with St. Mark and St. John Schools, which
are a little to the east on Cady Street, to come to their facilities. May this all prove to be pieces of useless
information!
A
request from Mrs. Diane Dannenberg, our hot lunch manager. If you haven’t already taken care of your
bills for morning milk and hot lunches for October, please do so ASAP. She said you parents were wonderful last
September in getting things in promptly and in being considerate to have the
separate envelopes for the two things – and those well marked with all the needed
information besides! The people who have
to handle all that really appreciated your considerate cooperation.
Have
you noticed the pictures of the children on the bulletin board in the Cady
Street entrance of the Church? They have
been changed once or twice already.
There are also some new picture entries on the school part of the
sainthenryparish.org website.
Speaking of that, parents of any 2008-2009 St. Henry athletes,
the revised copy of the handbook – a month’s long project of the Board
-- is ready. If possible, please
download it from the school section of the parish website just mentioned
and read through it. If you are unable
to download it, please let us know, and we will run it and send it home to
you. It TRULY is important for you to
peruse and especially note the parts that pertain to you parents and your
youngsters. That can prevent many
misunderstandings and frustrations. Many
thanks to the board members involved in that arduous project.
And

A Harvest/Halloween Reflection
A woman was asked by a coworker, “What is it like to be a
Christian?” The coworker replied, “It is
like being a pumpkin. God picks you from
the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all
the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of
doubt, hate, and greed. Then He carves
you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the
world to see.”
