“This saying is trustworthy:
‘If we have died with him, we shall also live with
him.
If we persevere, we shall also reign with him.’”
2 Timothy 2: 11
HELP!! Please!!
Our
St. Henry Athletic Association is sponsoring the Catholic Central League
tournament next Saturday, October 20, at Watertown High School. We had less than ten responses from a call
for 40 volunteers in last Friday’s envelope.
You will find another begging sheet in this week’s packet showing the
“jobs” and times still open.
Please!!! Of course, helping will
count towards service hours – and you’ll probably really enjoy yourselves.
Hopefully,
you will have time on that same day to work in giving blood for the Home and
School Association’s annual blood drive in connection with the national “Make a
Difference” theme that is encouraged every October. Please call school at 261-2586 during the day
or Mrs. Pat O’Connor in the evening at 262-6329 to make your appointment in the
Parish Center that Saturday, the 20th.
There are a number of open times between
We
are feeling proud. Our Angela Breunig in grade 6 was one of thirteen diocesan winners of
the calendar pictures contest sponsored by the Catholic Multi-Cultural Center
in Madison this year. She and her
parents are being invited to an awards ceremony at the end of the month. Congratulations, Angela. We certainly will be
looking forward to seeing the 2008 edition of the calendar.
We
received some WONDERFUL gifts recently from relatives honoring the memory of
some beloved deceased members of their families. The George and Setsuko Brennecke
family donated $2,000.00. This came the
day after Mrs. Oestreicher, our music and band
teacher, came into the office and suggested that instead of getting a new piano
for the music stage -- some of you will remember that our piano tuner made the
comment that we should consider that -- we should really think instead of
getting a clavanova like the one used in church but
without as many bells and whistles. They
have adjustable volume control and never need tuning. She thought they ran between 1300 and 2000
when they were on sale! How cool is
that! We will be tucking that gift aside
for that purchase and use any leftover for defraying the cost of an excellent
workshop presenter we have coming for the teachers in January.
The
family of Rudy and Marge Bohlman gave a very generous
donation of $5,000.00 towards the tuition help fund. Bless them. Although our tuition doesn’t come
close to the actual cost of educating a student here, it can be a burden for
some families. How grateful we are to
have organizations like St. Vincent DePaul (who donated $5,150 toward it this
fall) and our own Home and School Association who yearly contributes the
equivalent of a first child’s tuition, and individuals like the Bohlman family who make it possible for us to help out
those who qualify for aid. Everyone, of
course, owes a huge debt of gratitude to the staff for working for the very
modest salaries they receive. That certainly keeps costs down a lot. Finally, the reality is that the parish
itself bears the largest portion of the financial cost of providing this
Catholic Christian education and environment for our children here at St. Henry
School. Please, God, reward richly those
who give so generously for your work building the Kingdom.
PE REPORT
September
was our soccer month. The younger
students really worked hard on their kicking, passing and dribbling
skills. They then got a chance to show
their skills in some exciting sideline-soccer games. Meanwhile the sixth, seventh and eighths
graders were playing some competitive soccer games against one another. With the end of September so ended our soccer
unit. With the cooler weather blowing in
it sure feels like football season. Once
again our younger students will be working on their fundamental skills. They will be fine-tuning their throwing and
catching skills while the older students will be applying their footballs
skills to some flag-football games. Go
Packers!

STUDENTS GROW ACADEMICALLY AND SPIRITUALLY
As
the season changes so do we. The second
graders are growing academically. They
are working very hard to progress in showing mastery of their addition
facts. They continue to explore and
discover phonetic sounds and spelling patterns.
Reading is a part of every day.
They continue to grow spiritually.
We are preparing at school and at home for the sacrament of
Reconciliation
Watch
for a change of dates for their presentation at Mass. Since October 21st will be Father Bernie’s
last Sunday and luncheon reception our event will be rescheduled.
We
are learning about Japan from Misako Sensei.
She has brought us much information and many new experiences. Origami, calligraphy and Japanese clothing
have been lessons we have enjoyed. Some
added treats have been her reading two Japanese folktales to our class. We hope to add a Japanese song to our
repertoire. Her presence at St. Henry has certainly been a wonderful gift.
I
want to thank everyone who has donated drinks and/or snacks for the children to
“power up” on during the ITBS testing.
Testing will continue through Wednesday.
I
look forward to seeing many of you at all of the upcoming school and parish
events.
