“This is what the Lord asks of you, only this:

to act justly, to love tenderly,

and to walk humbly with your God.  Micah 6:8

                                (St. Henry School’s Guiding Scripture)

Welcome back!  Bienvenidos! Hopefully, many of you were able to join us for the school families’ picnic, hosted by your Home and School Association, after the 4:30 pm Mass today.  Many, many thanks to all those who made this gathering possible.

And how can we thank all those who helped with the huge locker project?  Oh my.  What a tremendous improvement and only possible through the generosity of you parents.  Bless you.  Bless you.  And much gratitude to the crew involved in constructing the mounts for the new TV’s.   The majority of the funds to purchase those televisions were gifts from the 2007 Dinner Auction Committee and the Knights of Columbus. Gratitude, too, for the people who have brought us our refurbished playground equipment and clean wooden chips. Our school is so richly gifted by the goodness of so many good people.

Please allow me to share St. Henry School’s VISION with you.  Our hope and prayer and energy and work are focused on forming “responsible and resourceful graduates rooted in faith and alive in Christ.”  Almost every word of that vision statement is packed with power – and we save the best for the last, “alive in Christ!”  And to that end our MISSION then is to “provide a fine, solid, academically-based preschool through grade eight Catholic school education that challenges and supports individual students as they develop their God-given skills and talents.”  Since we can’t do that alone, we are so grateful we have caring parents who share our vision and mission.  Working together, we will surely see our students – St. Henry Hawks! – “soaring with the Lord.”  (Our SLOGAN.)  God, please bless all of us, our efforts, and especially our children and all our alumni.

Goodness, do you parents have the homework to do before the first day of school on Tuesday, September 4th!  Lots of things to go through, fill out, and sign.  We really appreciate your taking the time to do that.  Please be sure to fill out COMPLETELY the Emergency Information/Student Information form.  Both sides.  Please, please give us all kinds of ways to contact you.  If addresses or phones or backup contacts change during the school year, please let us know that as soon as possible.  It is so important.  Thank you!

A plea for everyone to not only observe our before and after school pick up routine – coming in through the Second Street gate and leaving via Cady Street – but please be sure to share it with anyone and everyone who may pick up your children: older siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends.  Before school vehicles should either park in the designated parking areas or let children off only at the stop where one turns south toward the Cady Street exit and only if youngsters are all ready to get out on the Parish Center side and leave the vehicle quickly.  After school, everyone on the parking lot should wait in a parking space for youngsters; no one should be picking anyone up on the vehicle “road” from the Second Street entrance to the Cady Street exit. Also when exiting, please move to the left if turning left and to the right if turning right.  It should be possible for two vehicles to leave at the same time then if each is going in an opposite direction.  Since these before and after school times are so busy, it is imperative for the children’s safety sake that everyone please follow these regulations.

You will see many dates listed below on the on-going calendar. Please check them carefully.  Any parents who have not taken the diocesan workshop “Protecting God’s Children for Volunteers,” please do soon! Truly everyone should take it and anyone who wants to volunteer in any way with school or parish children must.  The workshops run about two hours, give or take, and they are very worthwhile. The other diocesan requirements for volunteers are that they must sign a permission to run a criminal check (and pass it, of course.) and they must read and agree to abide by the diocesan policies regarding working with children.  All sensible and geared to keep our children safe.  A date not listed yet, but an important one to already put on your calendar is Saturday, October 20th.  It’s the HASA blood drive.  More information will come home in future Friday packets.

So, enough for now.  See you at the PARENT ORIENTATION meeting September 6th, if not before!
