This is what the Lord asks of you, only
this:
To act justly, to love tenderly,
and to walk humbly with your
God. Micah 6:8
June 4, 2010
Please don’t forget to
pick up your K-7 children at 11:30 on Tuesday at Lincoln Park! The last day of school year 2009-2010! We will have spent the greater part of Tuesday
morning there enjoying games with St. Bernard School children. If you are unfamiliar with that park, go
north on Church Street. The park is a
block or two west of Church Street before you hit the railroad tracks. One way to it is to turn left on ELM St. at
the big curve on Church Street and go up a few blocks. The park will be on your right. Adult volunteers, please remember that
the two phy ed teachers are counting on you meeting them at the park at 9:00. (THANK YOU for helping with this special
day!) If the weather would prove to be not OK for outside activities, a fun
morning will be held at the individual schools.
A word from the
phy ed teachers for that Tuesday morning:
“Youngsters should bring a personal, filled water bottle. They should wear tennis shoes – NO clogs,
sandals, etc. They should wear sunscreen.” Although that morning will begin with Mass,
this day is the one exception we make for not wearing shorts to Mass. It is also suggested that the youngsters try to wear the colors
of the teams they will be on. Mr.
Messmann and/or the teachers will be sharing that team color information with
the children.
This coming Monday
the 7th, weather permitting, we will be having a cookout outside for
hot lunch. Should be fun. Our awards ceremony will be held at
12:45 in the PC. Anyone is welcome to
attend that. Graduation will be
that same evening beginning with Mass at 7:15.
Busy day!
A REALLY important day and
time to set aside and put on your calendar now.
Our BEGINNING-of-the YEAR meeting with your children’s teachers will
be on SATURDAY, August 28. Since the
school packets with all those important papers and forms will be available in
the back of church the weekend before, parents may bring along any forms to
that meeting that are already filled in as well as any school supplies you
would like to bring in early. Besides the
information from each teacher that will be really important to know to get the
year off to a great start, the students can even get their books that day to
bring home to get covered so when they come for the first day of school on
Wednesday, September 1, they will begin full steam ahead. We offer two presentations because many
parents have more than one child in our school.
The first one will begin at 3:00 pm; the repeat presentation will begin
about 3:20. Everyone is welcome to then
head over to church for 4:00 pm Mass.
After Mass, you are invited to come back for a Home and School
Association-sponsored free supper in the PC.
Please make it a real priority to come that day. Missing those teacher presentations is
missing . . . a lot!
As mentioned
above, you will be able to pick up those back-to-school family packets the
week before the teacher meetings ~ after the three Masses on Saturday and
Sunday. Those will be available
then the weekend of August 21-22. You might want to
put that on a calendar too.
The “Girls on
the Run” will be participating tomorrow in a 5K Saturday run in
Madison for a Cancer Cure Cause. They
should do well given the great shape they are now in! Many thanks to their coaches and
supporters for all the time (and enthusiasm) they have shared. The girls have loved the program.
As you all
know, fifteen hours of service per family are a contract requirement for
adults with kindergarten through grade 8 children in our school. A GREAT time for getting some of those
in is volunteering to help at the parish picnic July 10 and 11. Forms for doing that have been available in
the back of church for some weeks now.
You could also contact the parish office at 261-7273 for more
information about doing that.
Speaking of service, Home and School classroom
representatives perform some very important functions. They make major decisions regarding what
activities the organization will participate in or offer and how to raise and
spend the funds to support them. They also act as contact parents for the
families of the class they represent and may be asked to act as a “room parent”
by the teacher. Meetings are once a
month, usually September through May with none in December. Oddly, as of now, we have no parents who
have volunteered their services to do that for grades 5-8! It’s not because of a lack of generosity: a number of parents in those grades are
already filling time-consuming roles next year on the Athletic Board or as
coaches or have other rather large responsibilities. So we are hoping that some parents in those
grades who are a little less tied down next year or haven’t been able to step
up and help before will come forward.
It’s important! Please call President
Julie Krahn at 206-9148.
By the way,
although I don’t have regularly scheduled hours in the summer, I am in the
office quite a bit. So if you need to
contact me, just call. If I’m not here,
leave a message, and I’ll get back to you within a few hours or at the most a
few days. (If I am going to be out of
town for more than a couple of days, I ask Mrs. Trimborn to come in and check
the machine every few days.) If it’s
kind of an emergency, my home phone is in the telephone book.
Finally, we have kept our
BIGGEST NEWS for the last. Sadly, we are
going to be saying “Good-bye and a huge God bless and THANK YOU” to our kindergarten
teacher, Mrs. Tracy Lapp after fourteen years of truly dedicated service
here at St. Henry. Oh my. We wish her
the VERY BEST in her new (non-teaching) career and know she will be GREAT in
her slightly strange new role as a St. Henry School non-staff parent and
volunteer! Miss Brenda Boettcher,
our present third grade teacher, is very excited about being able to step into
the kindergarten teacher position.
Turns out that it has been a dream of hers for a long time to work with
that age group, and we know she will be excellent. Lastly, we are very pleased and excited to
announce that Mrs. Sharon Jahnke has accepted the position of next
year’s third grade teacher. How
blessed we are to add her to our staff!
She did such a good job this past year as the long term sub for one of
our new-mom teachers. So as we finish
off this year filled with many blessings, we know that 2010-2011 will be
chockfull of new ones. God be praised
and thanked. Have a wonderful and safe
summer!
