“The bread that we break, is it not a
participation in the body of Christ?”
I Corinthians 10: 16b
A number of the teachers received some notes from high school students during Teacher Appreciation Week that were “special.” (We think one of the teachers there makes it a project, which is really nice.) However, one we would like to share with you particularly was addressed to “All My Old Teachers at St. Henry School.”
“Thanks, all of you, for teaching me so well in my years at St. Henry. All of the work I had to do for school really got me prepared for High School. Math, English, science, reading and all the other little things that I had to do. The weird thing is that I was not on honor roll in St. Henry, but now in High School I have never been off of it. Hope to see you all soon.” (A junior boy.)
We do have pretty high standards here for honor roll but we have found that this youngster’s experience isn’t unusual. Great grounding in the curriculum coupled with good study habits do pay off. We also want to thank again many of you for the flowers, treats, HASA lunch, and notes that came during this month. They do warm hearts. God bless you.
Next week Friday the St. Henry 2008 Yearbooks will be distributed to the students who paid for them. We will allow them to bring them back the last week of school for autograph gathering at appropriate times. There are a few extras on hand for purchase. They were $11.00, thanks to the Home and School covering a portion of the cost.
There will be a Watertown All-City Youth Track Meet at Watertown High School on Friday, June 6.
Registration is at 3:30 with field events held at 4:00 and races at 4:30.
Grades 1& 2 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash, long jump, and softball throw
Grades 3& 4 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, long jump, and softball throw
Grades 5& 6 100, 200, 400, and 600 meter dashes, long jump, and shot put
Grades 7& 8 100, 200, 400 dashes, 800 and 1600 meter runs, long jump, high jump, and shot put.
Sounds interesting. No fees and non-competitive events. All participants will receive a ribbon listing their performance. Questions? Call Tim Gifford at 262-1480 Ext. 2107 or Chris Mertens at 262-7500 Ext. 3124.
Did the fourth graders ever receive compliments on their field trip to Old World Wisconsin this week! Both the teacher and some parents told me that two different tour guides praised the students as one of the best groups they had ever had. They even got some special treatment because they had been so cooperative, respectful, and interested. Three cheers for them.
Have you seen the lovely letters in the Parish Center under our wonderful paintings depicting our spiritual “ancestors” at St. Henry? Thanks to a donation as a memorial to Grampa Lessner, the theme of the paintings is spelled out plainly and elegantly: “A Heritage to Cherish.” A wonderful gift.
Some big news. Miss Boettcher will be the third grade homeroom teacher next year. Now that she has made the decision – and we were fine with it although we hate to “lose” her upstairs – she is really excited about the change. We know she will be wonderful. Prayers please that we find a worthy replacement for her. God bless.
Have a great weekend and be sure to give Him His hour in Church!
LOOK OUT FOR
THE DINOSAURS
Gallimimus, Brachiosaurus, and Veleociraptor, familiar names? We have been discovering cool facts about dinosaurs. The children learned that not all dinosaurs lived in the same time period and they could be carnivores and/or herbivores. The children were excited to research their own choice of dinosaur with their seventh grade buddies. After researching we used Model Magic to create our own dinosaur models. Our dinosaurs will be on display next week in the cafeteria. Come check them out before or after school.
Along with dinosaurs, first grade continues to work on addition facts. Congratulations to the seven who have already passed addition and are on their way into subtraction. Keep practicing those time test and flash cards. Memorizing these facts is a must for success with more complicated math work in future grades.

SAYING GOODBYE
IS DIFFICULT
We have some keyboarders to add to our typing list. Congratulations to Brenna Smedema, Caitlyn Schroeder, Karli Kohls, Cailee Weissenrieder and Joey Brebeck. We have a total of ten typists with 20 words a minute in third grade. Way to go!
Thanks to Jeff Wagner. He shared his job of working in the Air Force with the children last week on Career Day.
“Downhill Daredevils,” “Mountain Climbers,”and “Curly Q’s” are some of the cursive writing letters. The third graders are working hard at learning all the letters. They are finding out that connecting the cursive letters is a lot trickier than they thought it would be. They are also finding out that they need to PRACTICE - PRACTICE-PRACTICE.
You can definitely feel it in the classroom, see it on the playground, observe it in the hall – these third graders are on the way to becoming fourth graders. I would like to thank each of you for sharing your child with St. Henry’s. Each of these children brings precious gifts to each other that are nurtured and shared – every day!
I feel extremely honored and very blest to have been a part of the staff at St. Henry’s. The children, staff, and parents have taught me so many valuable things. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will truly miss each of you.
Have a great summer!
