Our Vision:
Responsible and
Resourceful Graduates Rooted in Faith and Alive in Christ.
We are proud (and sad) to wish our Eighth
Graders, “Congratulations on your Graduation!”
They have been a delightful class to work and pray and laugh with, and
we wish all of God’s best blessings to them through all the days and years
ahead. They will receive diocesan
“diplomas” during a special 7 pm Mass this coming Thursday evening and enjoy a
lovely reception sponsored by the Seventh Grade in the Parish Center following
the Eucharist. Will the High School be
pleased to have them among their freshmen class! John Brebeck, Megan
Heiden, Juliena Herritz, Jacob Lynch, Yolanda Narvaez, Brendan O’Connor,
John Tesensky, Jerry Tracy, Jordan Turner, Ben Uecker, and John Wagner –- Go with God and continue to
“Soar with the Lord!”
Parents of Kindergarteners and Students in
Grades 1-7, we will need the help of some of you this coming Friday, the last
day of school. Please fill out and
return a form accompanying this newsletter. However, we need information from
EVERYONE, even if you personally cannot attend our joint picnic and afternoon
activities with St. Bernard School at Lincoln Park, weather permitting. (By the way, if weather makes this impossible,
we will of course stay at school; teachers will have some fun activities in the
building and youngsters will be dismissed at 2:55 from here as usual.) If it’s a go to the park on Friday, all
parents need to realize that we will dismiss from the Park at 2:55. Please be there! Lincoln Park is about 10 blocks west and
north of St. Henry. One way to get there
from here is to go west on Cady Street to Church Street. Turn right (north) onto Church, go three
blocks north and then turn west again on Elm Street (where the curve is). A few more blocks and the south end of the
park will be on your right. The bus
company will be picking up their usual passengers there as well. Here’s hoping
we are blessed with a lovely day. Should
be a delightful time with St. Bernard’s!
At the end of the day on Thursday, your
children will be bringing home most of their own materials from their desk and
lockers. You might want to give them an
extra bag to carry things that day, especially if they are pack rats. Please take the time yourself next week to
peruse the Lost and Found tables that will be put up Tuesday in the Parish
Center lobby. They’ll be there a few
days but we’ll have to take them down after school on Thursday before
Graduation that evening. All unclaimed items will be taken to St. Vincent DePaul
or disposed of or given away. Thanks for
taking the time to do that.
Instead of having our All School Mass on
Wednesday, we will put a Eucharist stamp on this 2008-09 school year by
celebrating and thanking God for it at the 8:15 on Friday. Following Mass and a short break, we will
begin our annual awards ceremony in the Parish Center. You are certainly welcome to join us for that
around. It should begin between 9:15 and
9:30ish. As you will see from the
accompanying permission slip, we will begin walking to the park – again,
weather permitting – around 11:00 am.
Teachers will be bringing with them the weekly envelopes that will
contain not only the last newsletter and reminders but report cards and any awards
the students might have acquired. So
please be sure your youngsters go home with those. (Astounds me that I am talking about these
things. Didn’t we just get back from
Christmas vacation a few weeks ago?)
This is a creative and adventuresome
faculty that is constantly seeking improved ways to do good things. For the 2009-2010 they decided they want to
combine our open houses, back-to-school picnic, teacher information parent
meeting, and back-to-school envelope retrieval all on one day. And that day will be Saturday, August
22nd. All of the classrooms (4k through
grade 8) will be open by 3:00 pm for parents and youngsters to view and bring
in early any supplies that they would like to leave ahead of time. In the oldest child’s classroom will be the
very important envelope that contains many of the forms that need to be filled
out and returned on the first day of school, along with much other
information. (The envelope you used to
pick up in the back of church.). At 3:15
individual teachers will address the parents about their goals and expectations
for the year. Moms and Dads may need to
split up for these. Obviously, if the
number of teachers children have outnumber a family’s parents, the choice
should be to hear the teacher(s) and/or grade that will be new to you, the
parents. All discussion and sharing will
cease at 4:25 so we can all attend the 4:00 Mass as a School-Parish
community. After Mass, HASA will provide
a picnic supper and time to visit with each other. By 6:30 pm, we can all go
home and thank God for a great start to a brand new year. School will begin in earnest then, ten days
later on Tuesday, September first.
Last night was a good night indeed for our
fifth graders. They participated in a
city-wide DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) graduation at the High School.
Our own Brett Caine, was chosen to read his essay on the importance of staying
drug free to the entire audience. Our
prayers for all our fifth graders that they have the strength and courage to be
faithful to their DARE pledges. Three
cheers for Megan Bacchi, Sarah Bradow,
Jenny Brebeck, Brett Caine, Alex Denault,
Kirstin Evans, Rochelle Gray, John Hertel, Trey Jahnke, Jesse Jones, Chris Justmann, Calloway Kemp, Holly Krueger, Mara Lapp, Natalie Lemminger, Gabriel Linskens, Collin McCloskey, Lacey Mehltretter,
Stephanie Narvaez, Grace O’Connor, Josh Schroeder, Stephanie Torres and Becca Vandersommen. And
thank you, Officer Dave Gilbert, for being such a great role model!
