“Were not our hearts burning within us while

He spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?”

                  Luke 24:32

ATHLETIC REGISTRATION for next year THIS WEEKEND after the three Masses.  Please make yourself a BIG note to not forget to take care of this if you plan on your children in grades 4-8 next year to play basketball as a Hawk or a daughter in grades 5-8 next year to play volleyball.  You do not have to bring paperwork with you; it will all be done on site.  If you recall, there is an “early bird” special on the fees if you take care of this now.  Our big OPEN HOUSE is also this Sunday between 9:30 am and noon.  Please come in yourselves and welcome any “new” people you happen to notice.  Bringing guests along would be terrific.

Kaitlyn Linskens, one of our fifth grade students, from all the fifth graders in the city taking the D.A.R.E program this semester, was chosen to read her essay at their graduation Thursday, the 19th, at the High School.  We’re all proud, Kaitlyn.  Congratulations!   Thanks to Officer Schroeder for all the time she spent over these past few months helping our youngsters realize what a wise decision indeed it is to make a “commitment to remain drug and violence free.”

Lots of important paperwork – parent homework, if you will – going home today if you have children in 4K-7:

Financial options sheet.  Call if you are confused in any way.  We’d be happy to answer any questions.

Contract for next year.  Please fill in all blanks.  Three of the four sides need your input (very minimal).  We will make a home copy for you after we have your signatures, and we’ll send it back in the weekly envelope.

Service hours sheet for 2011-2012.  A few have requested it since you can start recording any ways you helped since this past April 15 and throughout this summer.  (The church picnic is a great opportunity for service hours.  It’s coming up Saturday and Sunday July 9 and 10.  Watch the church bulletins for information on that.)

There are others too:  some permission slips for some grades, an important Home and School sheet requesting folks to step up and fill some vacant positions for next year, and some reminders for a few folks. We will bless you many times over if you can get the financial options sheet and contract back early next week.   Thank you.  Thank you!

There will be a few opportunities in early June to attend the workshop “Protecting God’s Children”; it’s the one that is obligatory for ANY volunteers in our diocesan parishes.  The first one will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 1, in our rectory hall at 412 N. Fourth St.  The other two will be at the First Congregational Church on Thursday, June 2, and Sunday, June 12.  I’ll share those times as soon as I get them; they’ll be either in the afternoon or evening.  The reason for the First Congregational site is that some of the volunteers for the summer Bible school experience need the workshop, and that effort is a joint ecumenical one.  The churches who take part take turns being the host parish.  It’s a good thing.
