 “Receive the Holy Spirit.

Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,

and whose sins you retain are retained.”

                           Johan 20:22-23

Happy Pentecost! May the Holy Spirit be generous with his gifts.  Remember them?   Wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.  I noticed the newer terminology is wisdom, understanding, right judgment, courage, knowledge, reverence, and “wonder and awe.”   Interesting the difference in the last one’s “translation.”  Hmmm.   I think the actual reality for the last gift is that this last gift gives us a deep respect for the reality of our situation as creatures.  Fear is mixed with wonder and awe at our glimpsing the reality that God IS truly Lord of our lives. How grateful we are that Jesus taught us that we may indeed call him “Abba”– his Aramaic language expression for our English “Daddy,” or “Papa.”  Awesome is right!

A little note from Bob Breunig, the Basketball Director of the Athletic Association:

“First off, a big thank you to all the parents for getting the 2008-09 registration packets in, in a timely manner.  That makes our job a lot easier.  If you have not turned your packet in yet, please do so as soon as possible. Second, volleyball physicals must be completed by mid-August.  Basketball physicals need to be in by the start of school in September.”

EARLY 11:30 DISMISSAL this coming Thursday, May 15th.  Dare graduation that night too.

In this packet, you will notice some information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.  They are suggesting that on May 25th (or any day that suits you better) you take 25 minutes with your children to help keep them safer.  We actually ran off their talking points for you along with some other information about the “National Missing Children’s Day.”  May I suggest too that you regularly access the Virtus.org site for their excellent articles on this topic.  That’s the company that designed the “Protecting God’s Children” program that is mandatory for all volunteers in our parishes and schools.

From the tuition information returns you sent back from last Friday, you should be receiving a new SMART enrollment form and/or a tuition aid application if you requested one or the other or both.  As you can imagine, we will appreciate those back ASAP.  The deadline for the tuition aid application is actually two weeks from today, Friday, May 23rd.   It’s one of those things that once you sit down to do it, it really shouldn’t take too long.  But you will need your 2007 tax form in front of you for one section of it.  We need a copy of that tax form with it, but if you want us to make it for you, we can do that.  This material is kept very confidential.  We promise.

Did we hear some nice compliments recently from a regular visitor in our school with professional educational credentials.  She said it was a wonder that people weren’t breaking down the doors of our school to get their kids into this school.  Our atmosphere is so warm and friendly; the academics are so solid; and it’s so obvious the teachers are committed to keeping up their own learning since they continue to constantly upgrade their own skills.  And the Catholic mission is very evident and alive.  Bless her heart.  We are an excellent choice for most children, most families.  Please, parents, time and time again we hear that the best marketing tool by far is the word of mouth by “satisfied customers.”  We’re counting on your help.  Don’t forget that the Education Commission wants us to give you a $100.00 thank you off next year’s tuition if you are instrumental in bringing a new family into school.  (Tell them to tell us.)  And remember to spread the news:  FREE four-year-old preschool program at St. Henry for 2008-2009!   Let’s put some stress on those doors.

MUSIC: NOW and IN THE SUMMER

What a spectacular performance we were treated to on April 10! The students worked very hard preparing for “The Granny Awards” and their efforts truly shined.  Thank you for your cooperation and compliments; we’ll have to do it again sometime.

Speaking of spectacular performances, the final band and choir concert of the year is scheduled for Thursday, May 22, 2008, at St. Bernard’s Church at 6:30 pm.  Doors will open at 6:00 pm.  Students involved should dress very nicely (church clothes or better and the dress code does apply).  We will hear the band play some classic Handel and a snappy Latin tune.  The choir will be singing a very upbeat praise song as well as a Broadway hit.  Please come and support these dedicated students.

With summer fast approaching, let us not forget that music is everywhere.  Here are some suggestions to continue enjoying music this summer.  Band students should consider attending band camp for a week this summer.  (Information went home recently, but please contact me with questions or for more information.)  Take your family to a concert.  The Watertown Municipal Band performs weekly on Thursday nights at Riverside Park June through August.  Check the paper for details about these free concerts.  Have a family sing-along in the car on your road trip.  Have everyone pick one or two favorite songs and sing along!

Have a wonderful and musical summer!

     WE  DID IT !

THANKS to YOU

Yes, thanks to your generous support of our candy bar sales and car wash, we have not only reached our goal of $1800 but went over it.  Our final total will be about $2300.  Isn’t that great?

We hope you will all really like the Catholic Central League banners that you will be seeing in the Parish Center pretty soon.  They’ll be our class memorial gift to St. Henry School.  Go, Hawks!

So, thank you again, all of you who helped in any way.  Special thanks to many of our parents who helped a lot!
