“This is why the Father loves
me,
because I lay down my life in order to
take it up again.”
John 10:17
Most of you received information about the swine
flu concern that was sent home with the K-8 students yesterday. If not, it should be in your envelope
today. Obviously, we all have to use
common sense and precautions. So wash
those hands often and well, cover those coughs, and contact your doctor at the
first sign of a moderately high to high fever!
And, please, please keep sick children away from school. Thank you.
We’ll get through this.
MAJOR CONGRATULATIONS to all our Second
Graders on the reception of their First Holy Communion this Sunday during the
10:30 Mass. What a gift the Lord has
given us! Since the earliest days of the
Church -- in those first couple of centuries until now -- it has been the
continuous belief that the consecrated host and the wine are truly Christ, --
body, blood, soul, and divinity. And
given for us. There are some truly
wonderful, thoughtful, ADULT-oriented CD’s by Dr. Scott Hahn and others that
can truly enliven and deepen your own appreciation of this great
Sacrament. I’d be happy to either loan
some out and/or purchase them for you.
They are $3.00 – but truly priceless.
Just ask. And may the faith and
appreciation of these children just grow and grow and grow . . . into eternal
life. “If anyone eats this bread, he shall live forever; the bread that I will
give is my flesh, for the life of the world.”
Reading the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John makes it pretty clear
how adamant Jesus was on this teaching – and he never backed down despite the
fact that “many of his disciples broke away and would not remain in his company
any longer!” So again . . .
Second Graders, welcome to the Table of the Lord!
I had this nagging feeling that I never put
in this newsletter the Third Quarter Honor Roll.
It’s been on the website
(sainthenryparish.org) and in the Daily Times, but not here. So…

St. Henry Catholic School of Watertown with a grade point average of 3.2 to
just under 3.8 are as follows:

We’ve been asked to put in our newsletters
that there are still openings in the Watertown 4 Kids Public Preschool Program
for Four-Year-Olds. It’s tuition free in
community settings like . . . HERE! If
you know anyone who hasn’t registered yet, please encourage them to call
262-1460 and let them know they can specifically request St. Henry as their
site.
Speaking of next year. This past week there was a front-page article
about the public school test results. (A
lot of dissatisfaction with those, by the way, since it takes so long to get
results. They take them in the fall and
this year’s spring results were a month earlier than usual! In contrast, we take the ITBS tests in mid
October and have them back in time for parent-teacher conferences in November.) Toward the end of the article the Director of
Curriculum is quoted as saying, “Of course, our large class sizes in the
elementary grades can make it very difficult to deliver instruction to what is
an increasingly diverse student body.”
Do we have a solution for that!
