“Give me back the joy of
your salvation, and a willing spirit sustain in me.”
Psalm
51: 14
A blessed, blessed Easter to all. What an astonishing event the Resurrection
was! It changed EVERYTHING. How convinced and convincing those hundreds
and hundreds of very first Christians must have been. They had NOTHING to gain and so much to lose,
and yet they could not NOT proclaim the truth of what
they now knew. How much we owe them.
Let me share below the times of our beautiful, Holy
Week services. Every phrase of every
prayer and Scripture reading is saturated with spiritual realities that
transform this life in a way that is profound and true. How someone can be “bored” during these
celebrations is hard to grasp IF one
is participating with an open and attentive heart. That a person can be tired or distracted and
thus find it hard to stay completely in tune with what is going on . . .
understandable. Even the Lord was
empathetic with the apostles’ exhausted condition in the Garden of Gethsemane: “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” But boring?
No way. I hope most of you will
have the opportunity to join the millions and millions of other Catholic
Christians around the world in this witness of grateful worship over the next
few days.

The Enrollment Management Committee folks ask
everyone’s full support of their "Nominate a New Family Campaign” and for
helping with our Open House on May 15.
You saw their flyer in last week’s church bulletin, and one will be in
today’s weekly envelope. We will really appreciate getting your responses
back early next week. Thank you so
much for helping in whatever way you can.
A small word about fund-raising. In schools – private, public, parochial, charter,
-- and most child-centered organizations like Scouts and traveling teams, dance
and karate clubs, etc. fund-raising is a fact of life. Has been for decades and decades, and chances
are will continue to be so for decades into the future. We certainly understand that not everyone
will want and/or be able to participate in all of those that are offered. At school here we have tried to share items
of value to families while often supporting local merchants. (You might have noticed that we haven’t tried
to sell you overpriced wrapping paper and “cutesy” items.) HASA even occasionally gets requests, as in
their PJ’s and Subway coupon sales, that they run another one soon since the
individuals had used up their coupons and wanted more since they were such a
bargain actually. So, we ask your
patience with fund-raisers. Support if
you can – and you personally like the products.
If not, please don’t feel guilty in passing on some of them. (We always accept pure donations to help out
too!) THANKS. Truly.
