“In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places…

And if I go and prepare a place for you,

I will come back and take you to myself

so that where I am you also may be.”                 John 14:  2-3

You are remembering to check the school section of the parish website sainthenryparish.org regularly, aren’t you?  More pictures were added recently (thanks to the webmaster, Mr. Ken Riedl, and Mrs. Smedema).

In case you missed my admission of memory relapse on the bottom of the Home and School agenda that went home Monday, I did make a mistake last week about the amount of money our Lenten Penny War bought in for the Catholic Relief Services’ Donkey Project in Ghana.  It was $1600.00, not $1200.00.  Sorry about that.

Since spring seems to finally be making its appearance, the children for whom it is not their before-school gym day, starting Monday should stay outside before the morning bell rings at 7:55 – unless it’s raining, of course.

Thanks to all who have so good-naturedly supported the eighth graders attempts to raise money for attractive Catholic School League banners in the Parish Center.  So far they have netted $1000.00!  Over half way there to their goal of $1800.00.  Their next project will be a car wash on Saturday, May 3 at the Badger Car Wash next to the Kwik Trip on West Main Street. They’ll be there between 11 and 2 and are planning on having food for you to enjoy lunch while they do the work of making your vehicle shine.  Mark your calendars.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Honor Roll achievers this past quarter.  And a “God bless and way to go” to all students whose report cards had all ones and two’s in effort and no check marks on the behavior side. Wow!

Have a lovely weekend.  Be sure during it to give that special one hour to the Lord by joining the rest of the Catholic community at Mass.  How important it is that we hear that life-giving Word and receive the very Body of the Lord!  As Catholic Christians, we wither without this contact with the “true vine.”  We need the strength, the comfort, the joy that only full participation in the Eucharist can give us.  What a privilege we have!

GRADE TWO IN THE NEWS

The Great American Mail Race is on!  We received a letter from St. Cecilia Catholic School in Broussard, LA.  They asked us to send them a post card from our area and some information about our school.  Then they would be able to color our state on their map.  They invited us to join the “Race.”  So… we put our letter writing skills to work and have each written a letter to be sent to a Catholic school in each state.  We have learned how to find and write addresses.  The mail should start rolling in soon.  Then we will be able to put our map skills to work and color each state that we hear from.  What a great way to learn more about our larger community and our brothers and sisters in Christ enrolled in Catholic schools across the country.  (Thank you to all who contributed stamps to this worthwhile project.

We are reading Ramona the Pest in the Watertown Daily Times.  Each day we read together and answer the question at the end of each chapter.  We hope to send them in to win a free ice-cream party.

Nothing is more important than our fast approaching First Communion day, May 4th.  Our hearts and lives are preparing to receive the greatest gift God has to offer.  We look forward to receiving the Eucharist as often as possible.  Please keep us in your prayers.

EIGHTH GRADE NEWS

We would all like to say “Congratulations” to Mrs. Harms and her family.  We all hope that Andrew John is doing well!  Having a baby is truly a blessing from the Lord.

The eighth graders would like to share some of their recent projects they have completed.  They worked very hard on a poetry unit and wrote numerous poems.  The students enjoyed this and did an excellent job writing them.  Also, in science the eighth graders concluded a chemical reaction unit with a great experiment.  We combined Diet Coke and Mentos.  The reaction resulted in a “Fizz-tacular” sight!  The soda fountains rose to about five feet above the tops of the two-liter bottles.  We would like to send thanks to Mrs. Butzine for allowing us to do this experiment.

The eighth graders have many more fun things planned and a lot of hard work ahead.

Mrs. McLean
