“He himself bore our sins in his body upon the
cross,
so
that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness.
By his wounds you have been healed.”
I Peter 2: 24
Some important calendar items:
First Communion Parents: you have a meeting after the 8:30 Mass this Sunday in the cafeteria. Please be sure that at least one of you is there.
TODAY, Friday, is supposed to be the last date for making reservations for our annual School Families get-together in Wisconsin Dells the weekend of May 16-18. It’s a fairly reasonable price, given the Dells. Please be aware that this special price is for our school families only. I’m sure Grandmas and Grampas coming along would be OK, but given the restricted number of rooms, it would not be right to share that special reservation number given in the calendar with friends whose children aren’t at St. Henry. Hope that makes sense to you.
If you haven’t already turned in your service hours sheet for school year 07-08, please be sure to have it in by this coming Tuesday. As your school contract explains, it is an obligation that is fulfilled by service hours which could have been filled any time from last April 15th to now. If not completed, please send along a check made out to St. Henry School (or a money order) of $10 per unserved hour -- if lacking three hours, $30; if never got any done, $150. This policy was proposed a number of years back by the Home and School Association (HASA) and approved by the Education Commission to hopefully better share the volunteer burdens among the school parents. Some of you put in an amazing amount of extra hours for which the minimum fifteen hours is just a pittance. And most of you who do that work full-time and have all sorts of other family and community obligations. Your reward must be really adding up in heaven!
What a week of school-connected activities we have had. A number of you had fun at the HASA Sock Hop last Friday night. Weren’t the decorations a hopeful and fun sign of spring? THANK YOU, all who made that possible. On Wednesday, St. Bernard School joined us for Mass, morning snack and break, and a dress rehearsal for “The Granny Awards.” Grades 4 and 5 even stayed for some further classroom interactions, lunch, and recess. The students seemed to truly enjoy each other’s company. Of course, the spring program last night was a culminating celebration. How delightful that everyone was involved, preschoolers through eighth graders. I couldn’t help appreciating anew how special our school is that we don’t isolate one age group from another.
Our Lenten project Penny War for our fellow diocese in Ghana earned us the privilege of naming four donkeys for our donation of $1600.00. Each classroom submitted a name, and the Student Council members chose from them at their meeting yesterday. The little animal workers will be “christened” Donatello, Sparky, M & M, and Alfredo. May their purchase indeed help raise the living standard of our brothers and sisters in that part of the world.
We ask you to generously participate in the current HASA fund-raiser involving purchasing coupons for Subway and/or PJ’s Pizza. Those are due this Friday, the 18th. Thanks to all too who have helped out with the eighth graders’ class memorial project to buy professionally done league banners for the Parish Center.
FIRST GRADE
NEWS
First grade was very excited this week to have our first grade buddies from St. Bernard’s visit on Wednesday. We attended Mass together along with our St. Henry seventh grade buddies. It was a truly unifying experience worshipping God together. After Mass we ate snack together. Thank you to the mothers who sent snacks! St. Bernard’s then joined us for our dress rehersal for “The Granny Awards.” The children put on a great performance for our visitors. We look forward to another activity to further our friendships.
We have been very busy finishing our addition time tests. Congratulations to Connor Loppnow for being the first one to get to Z! Parents, as the time tests get harder, don’t forget to practice the flashcards for the test your child is on. Just a reminder that all children need to finish to Z by the end of first grade!

QUIET ON THE
SET! ACTION!
These words can be heard every day during our Cinderella and the Glass Slipper rehearsal. Plans are underway to perform this classic fairy tale on April 23. Look for additional information to come home fairly soon.
Our dictionary unit is in full swing. Each third grader has typed their “entry word” with four or five sentences. The final classroom page will be posted outside the third grade door.
We have two other typist to add to our 20 Words Per Minute (WPM) Club. Mark Wagner and Natalia Olguin are the newest members. Other third graders are close behind. Only a few more weeks to get keyboarding finished before heading to fourth grade. This is a skill that is SO needed and used in the upper grades.
Third graders can be very proud of their multiplication skills. A majority of them are at the “top of the rocket” for multiplication facts, and five students are already in division. Ask your child what level they are on in “minute math.” Keep reading and memorizing those facts!
