“I am the resurrection and the life;
whoever
believes in me, even if he dies, will live;
and
everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”
John 11: 25-26
This coming Monday is an 11:30 am dismissal day. There may be some special challenges in picking up your students that morning because the lot may be filled with parked cars for an 11:00 funeral. You might want to park on some of the side streets or the municipal lot on First Street and then walk up and collect your youngsters by the Parish Center. Whatever, please don’t block our “imaginary” road from the Second Street entrance to the Cady Street exit waiting for them. We’ll count on your patience and extra care. Thank you!
A “wish request” has been fulfilled. We now have a new instrument in our music room/stage! A beautiful clavanova (basically an electric piano). It’s similar to the one in the church, but not loaded with as many “bells and whistles” but with much better volume for our large Parish Center space. It was purchased with a $2000 gift memorial in honor of Setsuko Saito Brennecke, the grandmother of our Brennecke and Neeman alumni, and a generous $1400 donation from the Scrip funds. (Thank you, Scrip purchasers!)
Speaking of being generous, if you were out of town last weekend, you might not have heard Fr. Brian’s request for special help with a second collection at this weekend’s Masses for the extremely high and unforeseen heating and snow removal bills this winter. Please do help with that in whatever way you can. Seems only fair.
Some of you might remember that your youngsters in preschool through grade four enjoyed a special “Six Traits” writing presentation earlier this winter with Mr. Jim Mitchell, a St. Bernard parishioner who works for a company that does national booking for school programs. He asked us if he could have a professional come and do some filming for an internet commercial and he assured us that the there would be no names given, etc. We checked our permission lists and everyone looked good to go. If you would like to see the results he said you could find it by going on You Tube using your search engine (Google, etc.) Then click on You Tube, Broadcast Yourself. Next to the videos search, type in Jim.Mitchell 6+1. Click search and you should be in business. I thought some of you would want to do that. Enjoy!
We’re proud. Fifth grader, Janelle Hamilton, scored second place in the spelling competition at the regional Knights of Columbus contest in Madison recently and is invited to participate in the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids on April 12th. We sure wish her well.
Please keep storming heaven for our kindergartner, Josh O’Brien. The parents of his class will soon be organizing among themselves a meal brigade to help Mom and Dad out, but if you’d like to help in another way one possibility is to include a gas card for either KWIK Trip or BP with your note of prayer promises. You’d be welcome to drop them off at school since we have a close friend/fellow parent who is delivering things to them.
PLEASE note that we are offering the diocesan required workshop for any and all volunteers in the school or parish on Saturday morning, April 26th. If you haven’t done it yet, please seriously consider coming. Signing up through the Internet site VIRTUS.org is most appreciated. Look for registration and then scroll to the Diocese of Madison. When you click on that, you’ll find our offering. If that’s impossible, please give us a call.
PE REPORT
Badminton and jump rope were the activities of choice before the Easter break. Students showed their badminton skills while playing doubles and singles games. They worked on their jump rope skills on individual ropes, big ropes and with two ropes attempting a little “double Dutch.” Now that we’re back from Easter break the older students will be finishing up our net sports with a unit in pickle-ball. The younger students will be getting a chance at some always-fun parachute activities (popcorn, sharks and seals, and mousetrap to name a few.) In the near future we will have physical fitness testing. If the weather ever warms up we will be hoping to get outside for some outdoor fun.

SPRING
GREETINGS!
The fourth grade students are continuing to develop their math skills and concepts. We have just started working on finding the average and relating it to sports and other everyday activities
In social studies we will be looking at Wisconsin’s role in some major events in history. We will be focusing on the Black Hawk War and the Civil War. We will also be looking at the many firsts that happened in Wisconsin. Did you know that Wisconsin was the first state that started numbering their major streets?
We will be getting to some fun hands -- on activities in science. We have been looking at our role in the environment and seeing how things are all connected. What happens if we change something? We even pondered what would happen if we could somehow eliminate the mosquitoes that God put in this world? How would their absence affect the rest of nature?
Parents, please watch for information I will be sending about our upcoming fieldtrips in May.
