“Dying
you destroyed our death. Rising you
restored our life.
Lord
Jesus, come in glory!”
May the Lord of Glory touch your
hearts with great joy and peace this Holy Week and Easter. We wish God’s greatest blessings for you and
your loved ones.
Did you hear the results of
our Lenten Penny War? A grand
total of $1426.40 has already been sent to the Columban Fathers to help
with the work they do among the poor in their mission countries. Thank you, Parents. I know some of you
contributed to this worthwhile endeavor as well. By the way, our parish is sponsoring a
collection for Catholic Relief Services on Holy Thursday next week. When you want to help the poorest of the poor
in ways which truly benefit them, CRS has one of the best reputations out there
among worldwide services. You can rest assured that the right people will be
the recipients of your generosity when you contribute to CRS.
I have run out of room (or
memory) on the last couple of newsletters to honor a request from the dedicated
members of the St. Henry Dinner Auction committee to please thank all the
people who made donations to the classroom pots that were bid on during the
festivities in February. Although they
sent out over 150 personal thank you’s, they knew
there were some of you who had given anonymously to that project and they
wanted you to know for sure they appreciated your generosity. So . . . THANK YOU -- sincerely.
In the envelopes today are registration
forms for summer school classes.
Such an array of neat, fun choices. If you want to “read more about”
them, we are suppose be getting a copy of the booklet describing the courses in
greater detail to be kept in the office.
Or you can go on line to this site:

take reservations to Lincoln School GYM on Saturday, April 14th between
One of the teachers made an
interesting observation. Her own
personal child seemed hurt and sad recently.
She inquired why. “Because you
yelled at me.” She mused with me, “But I
didn’t yell. I didn’t even look
crabby. I just made a simple correction
using very respectful language.” And then
we had the “aha” insight that children in school use the same phraseology. If they feel corrected – and we try pretty
hard to do that fairly and appropriately – they will tend to use the wording,
“The teacher yelled at me.” Please keep
that in mind for future reference!
(Interesting, eh? Probably
happening at your house too.)
Most of you already know
that besides the almsgiving emphasis during Lent, the students in grades 2-8
were all provided with an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation
during the school day this Lent– during the time Father comes into their
classroom for about a half hour on an average of once a month. Every Friday grades 1-8 finished the school
week off with the lovely Catholic tradition of praying the Stations (or Way)
of the Cross in church. What a great
devotion for this time of year especially.
By the way, it was mentioned
in the recent Home and School minutes that used books for the sale
planned for April 25th can be brought to the classrooms beginning
after Easter break. See those
minutes for more details. Please also
check the calendar on the back carefully, won’t you? There are some really important dates and
deadlines coming up in April. For
instance, Monday, April 2nd already, is the last date for making
reservations in the Dells for the late May St. Henry Family Weekend together.
We are getting very
excited. It now looks as if we may
indeed have a Japanese teacher as a guest for a year. We do have a host family and planning is
going forward. I’m sure I’ll have more
details after Easter. God bless, all!
GRADUATION IS FAST APPROACHING
What’s your favorite holiday?
What are your likes and dislikes?
Where in the world would you like to travel? These are just a sample of the questions that
the eighth graders are currently writing about and putting into a binder called
their “Bio Book.” These “Bio Books” will
be filled with current information for the students and will serve as a great
memento of their elementary and middle school careers. These books also include stories of their
family life and friends. I am sure they
will be fun to look at ten years down the line.
I am looking forward to the completion of the books since a lot of time
and energy has been put into them so far!
These books will be on display for graduation night on June 11
The eighth grade is gearing up for the fourth quarter with
graduation plans in the works! We truly
can’t believe how fast the year has gone by and are very much looking forward
to graduation. Also, there are two trips
that will be coming up for us. On
Tuesday, April 24th, we are going to visit the Discovery World in
Milwaukee. On May 18th we will be going
on our patrol trip to the Wisconsin Dells.
More information on the patrol trip will be sent home soon.
On Thursday, the eighth graders and second graders worked on a
study buddy activity that had us making Easter origami. We made bunnies and eggs together. I would like to wish everyone a great and
holy Easter. Enjoy your spring break!

WHAT’S GRAY AND HAS A TAIL AND A TRUNK? *
Why did the fly sit on the pancake? Because he was a butterfly? First grade has been introduced to the
wonderful world of riddles. They love to
see the word play used in riddles. We
are creating our own animal riddles to make into a class book.
We have also been very busy with two math concepts: memorizing our
addition facts and learning to count money.
Every day we practice our current fact page and then take the one-minute
timed test. If a child meets his/her
goal, then he/she proceeds to the next level.
This month we also learned how to count money (coins). This can be a very difficult task,
considering the addition ability jumps one needs to take when counting the various
coins. The first graders are doing very
well.
Jesus’ suffering and death has been our main topic in religion
this month. We prayed the Stations of
the Cross every Friday with the entire school.
We even walked the Stations with just our class one day. The children found it very meaningful and
asked to do it again. We have also been
meditating on the deeper meaning of objects related to Jesus suffering and
death. We have placed pictures of these
objects on a bulletin board – “What Do I See at Calvary?” The children are very
much in awe of how Jesus suffered for us.
